Questions & Answers

Are you able to mold the product in order to keep its shape, or will it run?

You will not be able to mold it since it is a liquid.

Until I am able to refurbish my jetski, I want to paint it and apply two coats. After prepping the surface, will wax be better or should I paint it over with this material?

As the gel coat cures, wax in it allows it to do so. You can come back hours or even the next day and add additional coats if you don't want to use waz. My choice would be wax when it comes to a simple repair.

Does this gelcoat have the capability of being tinted with pigment?

Pigments can be added to the gelcoat to tint it. In cases where you are not matching the white of your yacht, you might choose a neutral gelcoat for tinting. Pastel colors can be created by adding pigments to white.

What are the benefits of spraying this Do you know how many square feet it covers?

This can be sprayed, but you'll need a large tip like your number four or six, and I think you'll need a six Leavy tip for it. I think it's about 12 to 15 minutes. I would say 1 gallon covers about 400 feet. The two layers of these rugs are 10 and 2

Very good at adhering to instructions! The perfect gift for anyone who doesn't like shopping There is no skid resistance in gelcoat
5/5

Without this stuff, I would not have been able to renovate a sailboat that came through Hurricane Michael. Gel coat that is not molded onto fiberglass does not adhere well, is the main complaint I have heard from people in the past. Neither polish nor wax had been applied to my boat, and it was in pristine condition As my existing gelcoat was in awful shape, I sanded it with 220/4OO/4600/1000/ and 1500. The coarser level required more sanding, and the finer level, the finishing level was not required as much. Although I don't know how this stuff would react on a waxed boat, it adheres to almost anything it gets on, plastic, cement, stainless steel, etc. I purchased this product with no wax because it was for an old boat and I did not want a shiny spot. After all this, I would speculate that a pure plastic (then coated with wax after drying) would likely be stronger than a plastic mixed with a foreign material. When using gelcoat over epoxy and filler, you have to use an art. The process may be difficult if you are not a skilled sander. My brush quickly applied the paint surrounded by painters tape in a small space. In addition to using a few more drops of MEK than was recommended, I also extended the drying time and the time I worked. I then removed the tape as soon as it dried because I found that after it dried, it caused the edges of the gelcoat painted surface to lift. I started with 160 sandpaper and went up to 400 for the final finish. All sanding must be done wet. You must be patient, and you have to be careful around the edges, which have the old finish on them. You can use this stuff on any kind of surface, including non-porous There are many surfaces that may be sked. The dead gelcoat did not even need to be removed- A simple soap and water cleaning is all that is required. I used a high-quality paint brush that I had to throw away after each application, and I Not for profit Skid has two sets of lines, and both of them are parallel The one on the right is 90 degrees to the left while the one below is 90 degrees to the right. The next part of the brush stroke was brushed along the right side, and I finished by brushing right into the left line sets. This gives a more uniform look to the So far, it has been stain-free and hard as nails. A number of coats of Star-V varnish have been applied Polishes marine surfaces with a bright finish. It looks like a brand new item. As a final note, I had to wrap each non-foaming surface with tape When applying, stick the surface to make it look professional.

This was an utter failure
3/5

We purchased Total Boat Gel Coat with wax in July 2019 and noticed that the product would not cure at 1% MEKP catalyst. We tried coating the product with Polyvinyl alcohol but to no avail. Upon contacting the company with all the product information, I was informed that it had sold lots of that batch and they had not heard of any problems and that I should give it more time After obtaining the assurance of the company, I increased MEKP to 3% and sprayed the material at a 10 percent dilution of MEK. Once the product had cured for four weeks, I removed it from the package. A paint scraper will work to peel it up. It does not have to be cured and can be softened with acetone. We will need to remove and reinstall the system for hours The fiberglass needs to be prepped. My overall opinion of Total Boat is that it is a total failure and I would not recommend it.

I cannot believe how white it is
5/5

The can of gelcoat I bought is the first I have As a matter of fact, this was the only paint that I bought and used to paint the inside of a concrete bird bath that was leaking. He sealed it up completely with the gelcoat. The new design is beautiful and it no longer leaks. Photo of the dark spots are not in the bath but rather in the reflections of the trees above. The water was so shockingly white that I had to put some sand in the bottom to keep the birds from being scared.

The manufacturer didn't intend for the product to be used this way
5/5

It's supposed to be for marine use, but doggone if it didn't work like a champ for my Airsteam experiment! There is no room for a tub, but a 3' X 2' stock tank will work just fine. Glue laminated barrel cut bamboo flooring (insulation and aesthetic appeal) was wrapped around the house interior to secure it and seal the inside. You don't see that very often, I'm sure! I am halfway through the process of creating the picture. Remember to keep this away from your children!.

I used it for the Epic V10 Sport Ultra Surfski and it worked great
5/5

A barnacle-clad rock was the first thing I encountered while out paddling on my (new to me) $4000 Epic surfski. This resulted in gouges and scratches in the clear coat of the boat as well as almost down to the Kevlar/carbon fiber weave. I ordered this Gelcoat (wax included), followed the instructions, and it did wonders. You've been successful! Unless you noticed a slight difference in color, it would be impossible to tell that there was damage. I found the gelcoat to be easy to work with, especially once I let it cure and switched from dry Considering that I live 80 yards from the Atlantic, I know this will be the first of many gelcoat repairs I will have to undertake in the future. The gelcoat paint I have on hand is perfect for my needs.

The small fillings are really nice
4/5

Our jet ski's fiber glass broke so we reviewed several videos about how to fix it. The gelcoat has been the most popular way to fill it up and fix it, but one guy used marine filler. In the end, it was possible, but not as easy as it appeared from the way it looked using We were not clear about how much catalyzer to use per gelcoat, especially when following the instructions. There is only a mention of how much to add to the hole quart, which was not yet Eventually, we calculated the proportion based on some trial and error. Our research also revealed that we have to take into account the colors. It would have been nice if the instructions had been clearer.
