Questions & Answers
When you add blue to white, it makes it look brighter but not washed out. The color is very nice.
This product is meant to be used on wood, fiberglass, and previously painted surfaces. However, it should be fine on ceramic tiles as long as they are not exposed to water for an extended period of time. It is suggested that you start with a primer.
If needed, I used a soft sponge roller and a paint brush to add detail.
I used lacquer thinner, which worked perfectly.

From my perspective, there are three major factors to consider. The first step is to apply primer and prepare the surface. If there is a solid layer of paint on the surface, scuff lightly with 180 or 200 grit paper and USE A TACK RAG instead of primer. A high-quality brush is the second consideration. If you don't have or can't find genuine Badger hair brushes, Purdy has them. A two-inch thickness is sufficient for boats, though the paint may need to be thinned slightly. Brush in a circular motion and avoid drips. It's best not to paint over your previous work while it's still wet. Wait a few minutes before applying the second coat. The weather is the third variable to consider. Be cautious and keep an eye on the weather forecasts. Sorry, this was supposed to be a review of the paint, which I found to be very easy to apply and has a nice sheen when dry. I'm unable to comment on the condition of the item. The boat has yet to be launched into the water. Don't guess, ask; customer service is excellent.
This paint has an incredible flow to it! Granted, it's been nearly 30 years since I've painted a boat and I've never used a paint like this, but after the first coat, even The Bride (a stickler for "perfection") thought I was finished. I've never enjoyed painting before, but I'm excited to use the rest of this paint on something else. I intentionally scratched it after the second coat had dried to see how strong it was, and I was blown away by the quality. The paint can had been damaged in shipping and was damaged when it arrived. The lid's edge had a significant dent in it. I would not have been able to re-open the container if I had removed the lid. seal it. I requested a replacement from Amazon, but discovered that I was unable to return it due to legal restrictions. After a brief conversation with customer service, I was told to keep the dented can and expect a replacement. When the second can arrived, it had a small dent as well, but it was on the side, and the lid was undamaged. The speed with which the replacement arrived wowed me, and I was glad to be an Amazon customer. TotalBoat is a fantastic company, and I recommend that anyone with even a passing interest in high-quality products watch their videos. I've spent hours learning new skills and have been tinkering with boats for years, but this is the first time I've done it again. I haven't painted in probably 30 years, and technology has advanced significantly in that time. Because of TotalBoat's quality and willingness to share information, this painting job was actually enjoyable.
When it's completely dry, it has a very glossy finish that looks wet. I would recommend getting the thinner if you want the best final coat. The paint is thick and difficult to brush on for the final coat; I would have been happier if I had purchased the thinner and been able to go over it with a final coat that was thin and easier to apply. You'll need at least two coats to make it look good, but a third would have been even better; it's similar to applying the final coat of polyurethane; you want it thin and spread out evenly.
This chemistry is clearly intended for HEAVY DUTY APPLICATIONS and is clearly a commercial grade paint. It has a good amount of coverage and is long-lasting. Definitely worth the money. One IMPORTANT TIP: Stirring with a large grade paint stick (available at Lowes/Home Depot) is much more efficient. The pigment is extremely thick, and stirring it by hand with the standard paint stick that comes with a gallon of paint will be difficult. No, you won't be able to shake the pigment into solution, but once it's mixed, all of the constituents will easily stay in solution. This paint will make you happy.
We discovered that several thin coats took 16 to 24 hours to dry after they arrived. We were duped because we didn't see that on the Amazon ad. This is a huge improvement over the car paints I've previously used. br>At first, we planned to paint it on, but we decided it would be too time consuming. We started by spraying the first coat of paint. Because xylene is illegal in our area, we used a special brushing thinner instead. Because of the runs, the first coat had to be completely sanded off; if you're going to spray, don't thin with brushing thinner! Perhaps the name should have hinted at this, but we tried it and it didn't work out. br>For the next coat, we experimented with tipping and rolling. The summer temperatures were unbearably hot, even late at night. The paint didn't seem to be flowing very well. br>The third coat was a last-ditch effort; I thinned it with some reducer I had on hand, which was essentially acetone, and sprayed it. It turned out to be a success. br>So, before attempting coat 4, we decided to wet sand everything to remove the roller marks from the previous coat. That coat went on smoothly, but we ran out of paint after about 3 square feet. So we're waiting for another quart to arrive from the east coast. br>Despite the fact that our results were good, I wouldn't use this paint again. If I had it to do all over again, I would have spent more money on high-quality car paint. Re- The majority of car paints have a ten-minute coat time. It would have saved us a lot of time cleaning up (cleaning up after each coat for several days in a row was a huge pain)br>Also, the manufacturer recommends xylene as a spraying thinner, but I don't think they realize it isn't available everywhere. br>It would have been much easier if we could have purchased paint locally and had local experts assist us with the project. I wouldn't recommend this paint unless you have access to a climate-controlled paint booth. For four days, try to keep bugs out of wet paint.
