Questions & Answers

Would it really benefit me to have a brightener?

The more brightener we applied, the brighter our teak became. We clean our teak every year, and this year we used the kit and the brightener did make a noticeable difference. I thought that because the brightener is in the kit we might as well use it. It wasn't used because we didn't use the stainless steel scrubber that we purchased.

Can you tell me how many ounces each bottle holds?

In the kits, there are two Each bottle has a 32 oz capacity while the other has a 16 oz capacity.

The butcher block island in my kitchen can this be used?

NO WAY! Food or cutting utensils may not be used on them! Intense use of your kitchen would not make you want to eat there for a week. There is a horrible odor to this set, but it does subside over time. I would recommend this set However, food preparation surfaces such as butcher blocks are not permitted. During my boat's construction, I installed an interior cuddy cabin. For a week, there was a strong smell. The end result is stunning!

When using the cleaner, oil and britener on a new eucalyptus or teak table that is going to be outdoors, do I need to seal it first? Would you mind telling me what kind it is?

The teak oil is all that needs to be applied when treating new furniture. New furniture does not require the use of cleaners and brighteners. It is possible that the oil will darken the wood a little, so you may want to try it under a chair or table first to ensure you like it.

The power washer should be used
4/5

In my experience, it is best to power wash old teak furniture that has been outside for many years instead of using the first step (teak cleaner). For minimal erosion of the wood, make sure the nozzle is of the least power. When the power wash is completed, let it dry, sand the surface, use teak brightener, let it dry, then apply On the left, you can see a power washer that was used to wash a chair. No power washing was performed on the chair on the right. It was just cleaned with teak cleaner.

Purchase the kit at your own risk Buying the oil and cleaner separately is a good idea
3/5

A kit containing four products is included in this package The cleaner has a brightener and oil in addition to a scourer for removing discolorations and If the teak is not too dirty, this cleaner is okay, but the brightener does not seem to work, and the scouring pad does not work either. It works very well, however, with teak oil. In the future, I will purchase this product again, but I will skip the scourer and brightener and just purchase the oil and cleaner separately.

You can call it magic
5/5

It is not uncommon to come across a product that shocks you, and this is such a product. My first impression of Star Brite was to buy the Hull Cleaner (shout out to Hull Cleaner!). An inboard boat 98 with a teak platform that was in need of some work was purchased from a second hand boat seller. I was concerned there was no hope for the restoration kit until I saw it. It was grey and weathered, had some missing pieces, and was concerned there was no hope for it. Replacing the missing pieces and following the directions in the kit followed the replacement process. I had to do differently was put on a lot more coats of teak oil at the final step, however watch your step afterwards because the surface is extremely slippery. I got lots of compliments on it afterward. My experience can be viewed in the attached photographs. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it!.

Initially, I had to apply over six coats of oil before the wood just absorbed it
5/5

There is a lot of time required, a lot of scrubbing, thorough rinsing, a long drying time, and after repeated drying twice, a lot of oil is produced. It is the results that The oil instructions for teak should not be followed. In the directions, it says to apply the first coat then wipe it off. I love it! Before the wood began to soak up the oil, I had to apply a total of six coats! You should apply the oil and let it sit for a few minutes, then keep applying it until it has absorbed. If you keep wiping away the excess oil, you will waste a lot of oil. built a 2ft x 4ft teak ski deck on our boat (a little bit of headache! absorbed about a quarter and a half of oil all by itself. Continue to apply it to the wood, and keep it moist. Wood grown in teak oil dies if there is too much oil, and the more oil, the less water gets in, causing this growth to cease.

Those results are great! Several years ago, I bought a teak table and chair set on Craiglist for $150 that had been sitting outside in the seller's backyard
5/5

Even though the table looked terrible, it was made out of solid teak of high As I expected I was going to need to sand all of the pieces down, I bought this “Star Brite Teak Care Kit” without very high expectations as I thought it might be worth a try in lieu of sanding before taking the plunge. After using the Cleaner, the difference was very good, more than I expected, so I cleaned it twice and used the Brightner for the final step. I loved that the table and chairs looked like new, raw teak, so I had to have them! After cleaning it off and smoothing it out, I spent less than 30 minutes sanding. After reading customer reviews, I decided against using Teak Oil and instead ordered Star Brite Teak sealer, as the sealer also appears to be more durable. It has been a couple of months since I started the program, and I'm very pleased.

Did not work too well on the teak swim platform of my boat
3/5

As described in the procedure, I followed it We used a razor blade and a stiff brush. The wood must be allowed to soak for a sufficient amount of time before being worked. I have tried several more Even worse than when I started, the teak looked nearly as bad as before. In the end it was an orbital sander that worked A) with a 60-grit paper. 120 is followed by It then went to 220, and finally to After vacuuming and wiping all the dust off with a damp cloth, continue to vacuum and wipe until all the dust has been removed. After all that, I applied step 3 (teak oil) and I am very pleased with the results.

I found this to be fairly successful
3/5

My bar chairs [less than a year old] are teak and I used the products on those The chair cleaner was meant to be really easy to use, but I had to scrub really hard to get the chairs clean Apparently it isn't as simple as others said it would be In fact, I opted out of purchasing the cleaner in favor of renting a power washer, but unfortunately the power washer In the beginning I tried two chairs one I cleaned with the pressure washer, the other I tried with the cleaner [both failed to perform]. In the meantime, I used the brightener and the oil on the remainder of the skin and they look much Perhaps I will give sanding a try once the weather cools off It's like one of those brighteners in the book Oil is then applied Once they start to get too dirty, I wait a month or two before removing them It might be worth trying the whole system of care.

I remember it working better than I thought it would
5/5

It had been about 10 years since I had cleaned it. It's finally time to do the dreaded job. I had to scrub a little but it wasn't as tough as I had remembered. This book is highly nooks and crannies), but she will be receiving a third coat of teak oil at the very least. You can apply the first coat with a brush, but the second can be applied with just a Terry cloth, which goes three times as fast.
