It appears that many people have been able to secure it on to the seat with a piece of PVC pipe that is half an inch in diameter. In the coming days, I plan on posting some photos and uploading a video showing how to do it. The encryption works as designed, and ensures a very secure connection. After shooting the video, I took it fishing the next day and had no problems with any of the three items. One thing you must remember is to install the seat to the swivel before you install the swivel to the bench seat and tighten it. It took me about 24 minutes to install these on two seats that were 16 inches wide and one seat that was 12 inches wide.
As long as you do not lean back, you will not be able to use this feature. It is useful to me but I will soon get rid of it. The seat of my aluminum boat clamps down all the way tight, but when I lean back, it slips and comes off. No matter how tight I tighten it, I can't get the seat to stay put. You should not purchase this if you are planning to lean back on your seat or if you are a large person. In addition to 155 lbs, I weigh 230 lbs. Here is a review I hope will help you.
I really like the way it feels! Easy assembly is required for mounting the swivel to the seats. If you then mount them to a bench seat or a platform, how tight the swivel attaches will depend on the type of platform or bench seat you use. My wrench was made from a half-inch pvc pipe cut into two notches on the end for the wing nuts. I saw someone else make one from a half-inch pipe previously. As you can see in my picture, this allows me to crank them pretty tightly onto my bench. A wrench is always kept on my boat in case it needs to be tightened.
If the seat mount is not modified, this will not work on Jon Boats with wooden seats. The front of the seat mount used to jump when I raised my 5 hp outboard motor, or pull up in the back when reaching for my ice chest. Some people recommend attaching u brackets to the lower part of the clamp, but thick aluminum would mean installing screws into it. For some reason, I didn't think that was a good idea. In place of the clamps, I chose to change their shape Now that the modifications have been made, the boat seat mount works perfectly.
I think this is an excellent idea and is easy to install. A TOOL that could be sold to tighten seat bracket bolts would be useful. A couple of fingers would have to fit under the seat brackets to get to the wing nuts. As a suggestion from another customer, I made use of a 1 foot PVC pipe rated at 1/2", with notch notches at both ends, so that the pipe could be fitted over the wing nuts. The seat was very easy to tighten. There were no glitches at all. We love the seats and brackets, but other than that, we enjoy them thoroughly.
I've added a home-page to my website An adjustable wing nut tightener for PVC pipes. It is very well constructed and its upper part attaches easily to the seat. I had trouble securing them to my small boat board seats because they are flexible. Having to take off the seats each time I transport my boat is almost impossible because there is not enough clearance to tighten the sturdy wing nuts. A 12" length of 1" diameter PVC pipe with a 12" length of small notches cut into it was made into a wing nut tightener, which allows the pipe notches to slide over the wing nuts and be twisted to tighten them. Using this approach, my hands don't get beaten up, so I am able to secure the seat mount much more reliably.
We are very happy with it. You may also.
My boat is equipped with these seats and they go with the boat. Taking the clamps apart and adjusting them wasn't difficult, it just took a little thought and effort. The seat also needs to be attached to the clamp rather easily. Simply turn the swivel mount so a hole is visible, attach a screw (make sure the head of the screw is not large), adjust until the next hole line up and put the screw in. You will really need to think for a second or so to figure that out, but it is not too hard.
