It turned out to be the detent latch, which I was able to replace for a reasonable price (with spares) on Amazon. br>br>Easy to set up after watching a quick video, and no more silly ball dropping.
These work just as well as the factory ones, but they're a little shorter and stiffer. It may have caused some ball breaks, but I'm still trying to figure out if it's a scratch in my barrel or something else. Perhaps they just need to sit for a while under the front bolt to gain access. If I keep chopping paint when I get my freak barrel kit, I'll know it's these for sure, and I'll change my review.
It was used to repair a Tippman 98 Custom marker that was more than a decade old. The detents that came with the device were brittle and crumbled. These were delivered and fit perfectly. It's great that it came in a six-pack, as it means I'll have plenty for future needs.
The detent that came with my Bolt had already dried out after two weeks of use. As a result, I believe the detent was bent up and lost some of its shape when I stored the marker with the bolt forward. I was double feeding balls once or twice per magazine. br>br>After replacing the detent, I shot one magazine with no problems. It remains to be seen how well it will hold up over the course of a full day of play, but they appear to be of higher quality than other stock Tippmann detents I've used. br>br>On top of that, it's a great price. When I run out, I'll definitely repurchase these.
I pulled out my 98 custom after a few years of not shooting it, and the balls were flying out the barrel. The ball latch had broken, it turned out. I went out and bought a six-pack and was back in business. It's simple to set up. There are a couple of tutorials on how to do it on YouTube.
Parts for Tippmann markers are becoming more difficult to come by, and while some people are 3D printing detents, I wouldn't recommend it. A detent is necessary for your paintball marker to avoid double feeds, paintballs rolling out of the marker, and to prevent breech breaks to some extent. These are adequate.
These things, the 68 carbine, are lifesavers. My old Tippmann 68 carbine was recently resurrected, and balls were flying out of the barrel. This is no longer the case.
Goods o- rings. Just keep in mind that for the same price as these, you can get a pack of 5 reversible ones, allowing you to get two uses out of one.
