I'd say the middle ground.
I ordered a large for my 10-year-old son, who is over 48 inches tall, and it was far too big for him- I hope this information is useful.
I'm not sure what I'm saying. Last year, I purchased an XL for a 10-year-old girl who is of average size. It was a little large at first, but after a few attempts, she got used to it. If you're debating between getting a small or medium, I'd go with the larger size.
Hello - Vinyl and foam are used to make this Octagon Tumbling Mat. No flame retardants have been applied to the mat.

My seven-year-old son stands 3'11" tall. I ordered the medium size, and it fits her perfectly. High-quality materials are used in the construction of this item. This is going to be a long-term investment.
This is ideal for my 11-year-old son. year- 59-inch-tall daughter, who is 59 years old. I'm disclosing this information because I ordered a Large (rather than an X-Large) size. I'm glad I did because it turned out to be a great decision. The X- She wouldn't have been able to do front and back walkovers in a large. This item was delivered earlier than expected. The mat is both strong and soft, as one would expect from a gym mat. Thank you a ton!.
My 6-year-old daughter needed a medium, so I ordered one. It's something she really enjoys. My 8-year-old son also uses it, and it's the ideal size for him. If I had to guess, I'd say it's good for 6 people. Children aged ten. If you're older, I'd go with a Size Large or larger.
My grand daughter's birthday is in April, so I got the large one for her. For her birthday, she only had one wish. After reading reviews and seeing what other people had bought, I decided on that size. She's having a hard time using it the way it's supposed to be used because she's still too short for it and she's afraid of getting hurt, but that's just her. I just checked and realized it was past the send back deadline, but I was very pleased with the quality and other aspects of it, so I just needed to exchange it for a medium so she could use it for dance class right away.
This 24x26 octagon was purchased for my 6-year-old daughter, who is unusually tall for her age. It's of good quality, has nice colors (better than the pictures), and I'd recommend it. My daughter can't fit in it because it's too big. There is a lot of room for development.

This was a gift for my 6-year-old daughter for Christmas. She attends a local tumbling class, but she wished she could practice her skills at home as well. This is the ideal size for her, with enough room for her to grow into it for at least a couple of years. Excellent craftsmanship. We've been using it almost every day for the last three months, and it's still going strong. If you're looking for a good book, I recommend this one.
