Questions & Answers

Is the plate made of solid brass or OE brass?

Brass is used to make all Zippo lighters. Nickel plating or painting are the most common options.

Is it possible to use the Zippo torch insert in these?

The edges are more rounded, so probably not.

Is the pipe insert going to fit in the case from 1941?

The edges are more rounded, so probably not.

I've had it for a year and haven't been able to light it once; any suggestions? Isn't it enough to say that I've already filled it up?

Pull the wick all the way to the top hole on the side where the flame emerges. Also, open the Zippo, turn it over, use the edge of the lid to open the bottom, and try to screw your Flint up a little while pulling it up with the Zippo's lid. Don't overfill the container, either. Once you've added the fluid (we use Zippo brand), light a game with a lighter and set it on the counter to burn for about 45 minutes. 60 seconds or more is the minimum time limit. After that, wait for it to cool before repeating the process.

In a record time, an oldschool class arrives at my door-- Check out the most recent version
5/5

On Thursday, May 29, I ordered the brushed brass Zippo Replica 1941, and on Monday, June 2nd, the mail carrier delivered it to me. Despite the fact that I needed to replace the lighter I inherited from my father, I wanted something more stylish than basic brushed steel or black powder coat. However, I was concerned that the brushed brass finish would be too flashy. The brushed brass, much to my relief, had a muted but warm glow that appealed to my inner Steampunk. The sound and tactile feedback are far more pleasant and quieter than on a steel model. The flint is wearing in nicely, and I'm already getting a consistent flame, despite the fact that it didn't light every time for the first few hours. This is the key to determining whether or not a Zippo is defective: as the striker wheel wears the sharp edges off the flint, lighting becomes easier over time, which can happen before the end of the first day or after several days, depending on how often the lighter is used. br>br>The Zippo brand lighters are incredibly simple and tough. They've seen action on every battlefield from Germany to Afghanistan, but they're still elegant enough to make a lady smile as she lights her cigarette. Owning all of my Zippos has been a joy, but especially this one. I feel like saying I'm happy is an understatement, but these are the only words that come to mind. br>br>Update from July 1, 2014: br>br>The brushed finish is extremely thin and has worn significantly in a very short time; although this had been mentioned in other reviews, I couldn't bring myself to believe it because the finishes on my previous Zippos had all been quite durable. Those, on the other hand, were either a thick matte paint or a powdercoat. It's still hard for me to believe that my lighter has aged by several years in just a few weeks, but it's true. To its credit, I should point out that brass is a much softer metal than steel, and it is easily scratched, or in this case, worn smooth, by harder metals- as if it were the steel in my cigarette case However, the mechanism is still quite solid, and I haven't experienced any of the mechanical issues that other reviewers have mentioned. If it doesn't light on the first try, it always lights on the second, and the striker wheel operation is, if possible, even smoother and easier than that of other Zippos I've owned in the past; if only Zippo could address the issue of the thin and easily damaged finish, this lighter would be truly legendary. I'm no longer proud to show off this lighter, despite its excellent mechanical performance. Within a month, it went from being a charming example of old-school class to being close to being an embarrassment. I've contacted Zippo Manufacturing about a replacement because this is clearly a quality control issue on their part. It's unfortunate that such a problem has forced me to lower my rating, because OutdoorBunker's service deserves five stars on its own, but it's necessary to inform other customers about a product's flaws. br>br>FRIDAY, JULY 18TH, 2014 UPDATE: br>br>I spoke with Zippo and found them to be extremely courteous and professional. I sent both the Replica 1941 and a lighter I inherited from my father, and not only did I receive a replacement Replica 1941, but the mechanism inside my father's lighter was also replaced, with the original mechanism being returned to me as a personal touch due to its sentimental value as an heirloom. As a result of Zippo's prompt response, I've updated my rating to five stars, which automatically restores OutdoorBunker's deserved rating. Zippo stands behind all of their products, as I've previously stated. However, as I discovered when I contacted them, there is one caveat: The warranty does not cover the finish on their lighters. When purchasing a Zippo, please keep this in mind and invest in a good case to protect the finish.

The best zippo ever
4/5

The most attractive design of any zippo. The top is slightly crooked, possibly due to the four barrel hinge. Any zippo, however, will loosen up over time. This particular zippo produces the best sound of any.
