It's simply because it's so large! This isn't the keychain for you if you want to keep it in your pocket. It would be much easier to use if the entire thing was the same size as the metal part. If you look closely at the photo, it's almost the size of my entire hand, and I'm wearing a woman's large in gloves!.
Shortly after I started using the key ring, the strap that holds it broke.
