Please keep in mind that both versions of the software will require an internet connection to install. The only difference is in the installation method. The TurboTax Deluxe 2020 download product will be installed directly on your computer, and you will need to create a free Intuit account to use it. The TurboTax Deluxe 2020 disc product must be installed on your computer using a drive.
TurboTax 2020 Deluxe can be downloaded, installed, and activated on up to 5 computers. Alternatively, you can send an e-mail to At no extra charge, you can file up to five (5) different federal tax returns.
While the forms for Stocks are included in Deluxe, we recommend upgrading to Premier to get the guided interview questions to ensure that data is entered correctly. Deluxe is a good option if you don't mind manually entering data. While Forms Mode does not prevent you from e-mailing, it does make it more difficult. The TurboTax Accuracy Guarantee will be voided if you file late. If you change any of TurboTax's calculated values, the Accuracy Guarantee will be voided, and you won't be able to e-file your return. You can still print and file your return, though.
Any of our versions still allow you to download a TurboTax state product. See "Download TurboTax State (Windows)" or "Download state program for TurboTax for Mac" in the TurboTax community for instructions on how to do so. You'll need to contact Amazon customer service for any refunds or exchanges.

Remember how, in 2018, Turbotax removed half of the forms from the Deluxe version, or how, in 2019, they removed the option to do your taxes locally in order to push you online? Oh, and don't forget about their numerous sales. I like the software and am used to it, but every time I use it, I instinctively reach for my wallet. br>br>I like the software and am used to it, but every time I use it, I instinctively reach for my wallet. I'll pay you $40 a year, but I'm not interested in storing my data in your cloud or being constantly pushed to buy things I don't need (Audit protection, anyone?). br>br>Please just take my money and leave me alone.
First and foremost, I'd like to applaud TurboTax and Amazon for finally stating in the title and with the wedge over the top right corner of the image that this version is only for federal returns this year. There were a lot of one-offs in previous years. People leaving five-star reviews after purchasing the incorrect version and then complaining about how much Intuit charges to purchase their State return within the product, in the hopes of preventing or greatly reducing those careless people from purchasing the incorrect version. Second, as of this year, Windows 7 will no longer be supported. The list of Platforms directly beneath the product title, as well as the list of Operating Systems under WINDOWS SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS in the detailed description, make this clear. Last year's TurboTax warned me that Windows 7 was no longer supported by Microsoft every time I started it up, so I didn't expect it to be supported this year, and it isn't. Third, I purchased the disc version, which worked flawlessly on my Windows 10 desktop. I can confirm that the Deluxe version includes schedules C and D (which Intuit attempted to remove from the Deluxe version a few years ago). I'm glad these and other related forms are still included in Deluxe. br>br>Fourth, some schedules and forms are not finalized because they have not been finalized by the IRS. And now that the IRS is busy sending out the second stimulus payment (dubbed EIP2), I suspect that the IRS will take longer to finalize some forms (though I can't say for sure). Finally, TurboTax Deluxe appears to be the same outstanding product that it has been for many years. I was able to complete my initial best guess, which I do every year around this time, so that I am confident in the 4th estimated tax payment that I must make by January 15. BTW, don't forget that, thanks to the CARES Act, Standard Deduction filers can still deduct up to $300 in charitable contributions in 2020; TurboTax handled it perfectly for me.
TurboTax Deluxe vs. TurboTax Deluxe v Premier vs. Premier Both at home and at work TurboTax has been our go-to tax software for the past 21 years. Back then, it was known as "MacinTax" for the Mac, and Tom Brady was a rookie in the NFL. With experience with all of these TurboTax versions, I've compiled a list of tips that I hope you'll find useful:
TurboTax Deluxe
This is the best buy of the group and does 90% of what the others will do
This is the best buy% For the majority of users, TurboTax Deluxe is sufficient. If you live in a state that does not have an income tax, opting for the federal version only will save you about ten dollars. br>br>TurboTax Premierbr>Premier gives you a little extra peace of mind by including videos that you won't need after the first year or two of using TurboTax. Most users have very similar returns from year to year, so once you've completed the initial setup, any of the versions will copy your previous year's return, regardless of which version you used previously. We have rental property income, which is supposed to give us an advantage with Premier, but when it comes to filing taxes, I actually compare last year's TurboTax return to this year's. I know which items to put where on the various software screens because I did it last year. This version does not require the "maximize next year's refund" add-on; For the coming year, all versions offer advice and "what if" modeling. br>br>TurboTax Home and Businessbr>If you have employees or need to send a 1099 to anyone, this is the version to get. If you hire freelancers on a regular basis and pay them more than $600 in a calendar year, you must send them a 1099 form, according to the IRS. If you have salaried employees, Home and Business is also capable of completing W-Forms. 2 forms in a professional and easy-to-use manner br>br>I hope this helps you avoid tax headaches so you can get back to enjoying life! In any case, may your refunds be plentiful!.
This isn't compatible with Windows 7 and won't even let you install it. On the package or in a sales promotion, there is no mention of this. If you prefer to stick with Windows 7, as MILLIONS of others do, DO NOT purchase it.
Some things haven't changed in the years that I've used Turbo Tax. It takes an inordinate amount of time for it to open. It also takes its time loading the first time. I got this version because my State has a website, and because it is a flat tax (add up every cent you have, and multiply by x %), there is no need to spend To file my state taxes, I only have to fill out five lines. Since it updates your State and Federal every time you open it, I expect it to allow you to buy your State filing when you're done, as it has in the past. It imports data from a variety of programs, not just Turbo Tax, from the previous year. Because I have to file estimated taxes in January, and those forms are rarely completed by then, I take a previous year's filing, rename it, and update the information to get a tax estimate. This is one of the reasons why having the ability to file multiple tax returns is beneficial. My sources of income do not change; only the amounts do. The importation of 1099 forms from various institutions and brokerages was also improved and expanded last year. And that's very useful. br>I'm referring to the previous year's version because it's too early in the tax year to do much with 2020 data, especially since the IRS hasn't finalized the forms yet. However, there will be only minor adjustments. And I don't expect Turbo Tax to make things any easier, but it does give me a chance to gather all of the necessary information so I'm ready to go while I wait. br>Because I itemize, it has all of the charities I donated to last tax year, and it's ready for me to enter any new amounts, delete any, or add any. Charitable donations are simple to make if this is one's first time itemizing.
