According to what I was told, FTM 12 is incompatible with Windows 10. The reason I did not download it is because I could not find it online. As far as I know, it is compatible with FTM 14, but I am not ready to buy it

A successful setup has been achieved. Clicking on the icon to launch the program caused my computer to display the following In Family Tree Maker 2010, the last time it was used the program was not properly closed. If your last opened file has been compacted improperly, you may need to do so to resolve the issue. You can compact a file by choosing "Compact File". You can perform this action by selecting "Tools". **O. **
Whenever I try to run the program, I receive this error message
Family Tree Maker 2010 has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. It is our sincere regret that this inconvenience has occurred. *** br>
There is no way to run the program, let alone compact the file. Over the course of 7 hours, I installed / uninstalled / reset my computer / edited the registry / updated / etc etc etc etc along with reading hundreds of tech notes, forums, and support notes. When I contacted Family Tree Maker support, I was given the following phone number Contact 800-816-512 There are 262-words In their support documents, they outline the following procedures that are to be followed (to the letter) The Family Tree Maker 2010 program needs to be manually uninstalled. How can I do this? "Family Tree Maker has encountered an error and must close" in What's wrong with Windows XP when Microsoft Office 2010 crashes? 'Just for starters. ' Ultimately, the very kind individual at FTM Tech Support conceded that there was not much else we could do to get the software to run Amazon contacted me, and I told them about my problem. I requested a return/refund order from com and they were very pleasant to work with. Surely there must be something going on does not play nicely with FTM 2010, which is unfortunate because I was looking forward to using it. Perhaps if I switch to another operating system in the future, I will give it a second try.
This is a good thing The list of recently opened trees is displayed The right-hand side With a click of a button, you can rename a tree, rename a folder and rename a directory The easier it is to work on multiple trees, the more time you will save. The media for the person and the sources for the facts can now be inserted with an easier way. The ability to manage sources much more easily When you have duplicate source entries with slightly different wording or spelling, you can replace all duplicate sources for all usages with one search. There is an improvement in performance even when you have Multiple tasks can be accomplished Alternatively, you can display multiple tree files in separate windows and work on each file sequentially, or you can use one window and compare multiple files at once. There are some negative aspects I cannot add the same source to more than one fact. The child's record(s) are still duplicated in your reports even after you fix relationships with parents (natural, adopted, step, etc. ). It is when there is both a natural mother and a stepmother It appears that the mother can attach her child to both records, but the report still lists the child and its descendants twice. The couple still has 'shared information' connecting the There seems to be no difference between kids with natural parents and those with Creating reports from a person seated in the middle of a tree is still inconvenient. There must be multiple oldest ancestors for each lineage and duplicate details in Outline and Register (the most commonly used reports). The middle person from the family tree cannot be selected and all the ancestors and descendents will be displayed (as when importing a date into a Ideally, the software should be able to compile trees with a minimal or no duplicated lineage. There is also an ugly side to it GED files older than version 5 cannot be opened. There has been no improvement in the opening of older files since version 5. A mini-computer On ancestry, you can install FTM Version 2005 (the last version that can open old GED records). In the Help files and FAQs, there is a link hidden in the 2005 Answer, but if you do not use the same index words and spacing, then it will It is version A 2010 file format CONVERTS an older version, but you cannot undo the conversion. As long as you plan on working in 2008 while learning 2010, it is a good idea to have a backup file. You cannot navigate to a shared folder that is outside the tree's specific media folder in order to attach media. You can buy the Essentials package only for members who are loyal to the website. In higher priced packages, you will receive CDs containing the same old reference materials, which have not been updated for several The higher priced packages are not worth the price.
There are many things about the FTM 2010 program that dissatisfy me. It has been more than a decade since I have used various Family Tree Maker programs and I have been very pleased with the latest version 16. My 6500+ names and info were imported into the new program once I purchased it, loaded it, and started using it. It took me over an hour just to load this program, and to import my data took over 20 minutes. I now have gigabytes of memory on my computer, which is mainly used for genealogy, so this is absurd. Lastly, I attempted to save and/or backup all the data under the program of 2010, but it did not work. In comparison, Version 16 used approximately 20 seconds to load the entire program and all the data. In reading many of the comments from others, I was surprised to find that so many others were experiencing some of the same difficulties that I was. Fortunately now that I'm not a dummy, I don't feel incapable. It is of little use to read the booklets. The program's authors are either unaware or do not care that most of those who use this program are not geeks. WHAT WE NEED IS AN EASY TO USE PROGRAM that does the job as if it were not a hassle. Again, I find the program extremely difficult to use, and no where near what I expected, considering the only thing I wanted was a more versatile and better As soon as possible, I will return to.
