Selected User Reviews For Roller Typing [Old Version]
After trying other products at the library, the librarian suggested this like. This was installed easily on an old PC running Windows 98 with a Pentium 166. Children's software does not run as well as this one. The problem with it is that it is sometimes hard to type too fast or too slowly, but I think it helps you place your fingers accurately and cleanly. The best part about this program is that my six year old loves it and he's learning how to type while doing it. There are interactive graphics where if you mistype a character, (called bladers) will perform as well as you would. A number of events are included in the competition cones, cow jumping (a lot of fun), a halfpipe, sidewalk and speed skating which highlight The more precise you are in that event, the more cows you jump and more flips you do over them. It will definitely be a challenge to perform in both the speed and accuracy portions of the sidewalk event. Skating along as words are displayed for you to type is presented to you in a skateboard video. He runs into an obstacle and falls flat on his face when he makes a mistake. I don't think it motivates my six-year-old, but I am sure it does for mine. It may not be suitable for those whose age is over 60 and those whose computer knowledge is overly advanced. You should particularly focus on typing if you already know how to do it. I can see how it would improve my skills (even though I still don't know how to use it). Kids learning to type will really enjoy this (if you remember high school typing class before computers, you're over 30 years old) because it gives them a lot of practice. In addition, anime and video games like ultra action type will not appeal to teenage kids who watch excessive TV. In any case, it would be beneficial to them to develop good typing skills.
Although the marketing believes that this is a 3D interactive, in reality it isn't. The canned quicktime movie is shown to you after the interactions and sometimes during them. Over and over and over again, the same movie can be viewed. Whenever a program requires Windows users to back off of QuickTime 6 and install Quicktime 2, you should back off. On the CD, there are five tracks. It is pointless to have ROM on your computer.
Likewise, we tried it on our Mac and found that if you type too fast, it misses the keystrokes and counts them as errors. In cases where you type too soon, even after the visual prompt has been displayed, it will miss Learning is hindered by distracting visuals and too much reliance on the keyboard chart at the expense of the source text. In the event you commit even one mistake, you will lose and you have to start all over again. There is no doubt that this program worked in its day (although I can't see how that is possible), but it is dated and need to be replaced. It is also poorly designed, as well as being very out of date. I suggest you stay away from this person!.
It is challenging, fun and a lot of fun to do. However, I was disappointed that it didn't address the next level of providing opportunities to both learn and practice words, sentences, and paragraphs. A great addition for the software creators to consider adding to the "next" version would be this feature.
This activity keeps kids motivated because it's lots of fun. In my opinion, the only complaint I have with this program is that it doesn't provide enough practice where kids who type slowly will not struggle to do well. Drills designed to increase speed are exactly what they are. The speed drills cannot be completed if you cannot type quickly enough. Besides being a fun program for children, this is also fun for.
The best way to learn how to type for kids.
Programs of this sort are very basic. It is too hard for a child to keep his or her interest with too few options.
After reading a previous review which slammed this product, I found that my students arrived at decent proficiency levels when using it. In 2nd grade, I used it, and in 6th grade, I still use it. I don't care if it shows a canned film. Yes, I too would like to see it provide more features like that. It would be nice if there were a network version of the program, so I could look at progress charts from one location. The keyboard program, though lacking in some aspects, has a strong record of achieving results, relative to other typing programs. It gets the kids excited and involved, and any program that gets kids interested is half the battle All the way to the finish line.
