Questions & Answers

What are the chances that it will work with Windows ?

There was something wrong with this, so I returned it. In the software, it was written all screwy, so you could either advance the program or it would stop. This was not suitable for use. Your money is not worth it

Would you be able to tell me how I can ?

It's hard for me to tell It works fine for me on Windows 7.

What is the compatibility of windows 7 with this program?

Since I began using this software about 10 years ago, it has become a valuable asset. As a result of the negative reviews, I feel compelled to respond. Using this program, all three of my oldest children have learned how to play chess. Fritz and Chester are now being used by my 9 and 8 year old children. Listen to the naysayers, but do not listen to them. It seems that there are other programs that are better at capturing a child's interest and teaching them to play the right way than Fritz and Chest, but why are they not named? In my experience, it is the single greatest piece of educational software out there. In my experience, as a parent who has used a great deal of educational software, I can say that in a positive way. An easy to use game interface, colorful graphics and a cute storyline make the game very enjoyable. I lost every single game to my oldest child before he found a way to consistently beat me after he played through Fritz and Chester. As a result, I devoted lots of time and energy to study and practice to catch up. Having difficulty getting it to run on Windows 7 over the last couple of months, it remains such an outstanding program that there is simply no good replacement (and, again, I challenge any critic to identify a similar program that takes kids from zero game knowledge to being able to play an entire game). In fact, I dug out an old computer I haven't used in years and reinstalled Windows XP service pack 3 just so I could teach my budding chess masters Fritz and Chester. Look at garage sales or thrift stores to see if you can find an old machine running XP for this software, or set up your current machine so it can dual boot with XP (get some help if you do not know how to do it). I'd like to respond to the criticisms of others The next screen didn't appear for you? Are you sure? The only options are 2 and 3. Click the left mouse button until the cursor turns into an arrow pointing left or the right mouse button until the cursor turns into an arrow pointing right. It may be best for you to stick to checkers if you are not able to figure that out. You are teaching your child how to handle pieces and pawns by playing the introductory games. It is not necessary for them to understand the name of a rook or bishop in order to learn how to use them on the board. They will learn its meaning Because of the order in which Fritz and Chester instructs the student, I believe it is the right way to teach chess. As you learn how pieces move, you also gain a better understanding of the board. In addition, you learn to anticipate where pieces and pawns can go, and how to anticipate and over come obstacles. In an ideal world, these games would be mastered and the F&aposs would flourish As a consequence, C teaches its student how to achieve checkmate and how to avoid stalemate by teaching them how to play the endgame. Following that, the exercise class takes place in the middle of the day Players develop skills by playing games with only some of the pieces, but so that there is equal "weight" on both sides. When I say "My weight" I am referring to the traditional points system where pieces are assigned traditional point values (9,5,3,1) based on their relative weight. A student is not allowed to play a full game until all of the fundamental skills have been mastered. Although this software is still not updated to run on modern operating systems, it is a shame that it is not up to date. Even if I had unlimited funds, I would buy the rights and update it so that the current generation of children could learn chess with the best software ever developed for children. If anyone can tell me about the newest and best kids chess program that is even close to being as good as Fritz or Chester, please post it here and I will try it out. When it is deemed better, or even close to being as good, I will gladly accept my apologies and endorse it.

Selected User Reviews For Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chesster

This is a great program that needs to be updated
4/5

Three months ago, my children expressed interest in learning how to play chess. I bought this program to help them do that. As a result, my older kids (9 and 7) have completed the program from beginning to end. (Even though I knew how to play chess, I also played the game from beginning to end, as I do with all software we have in Learning is reinforced with rewards at each stage and intermediate goals at each level. As a result of these rewards, children can remain enthusiastic and motivated through what can be a very long As part of the game, a series of games are conducted to introduce the movement of characters. A series of tactics and ideas in chess are reinforced in a series of training exercises that make up the core of the game. Beginners have a challenging program without being frustratingly hard. My children have been using the program independently for the most part, though at one or two points I had to sit and coach my 7-year-old. The year is An old person. This is the The year is Two days occurred during which my older child completed the program, and a week occurred during which my younger child did it. Although the program cannot be useless once finished, it can be useful after completion. Chesster displays a series of levels of play that range from very easy to very difficult. I imagine even the most experienced players might have a tough time defeating it at the highest level. This is a series of books that is designed for children who have a basic understanding of chess, however, you probably would do better to purchase the second book In my opinion, it is unclear why other users found the program confusing and difficult to use based on previous reviews. There is no manual included with the program, but, as I noted earlier, I didn't Despite my three-year-old's small size, the program is intuitive, and even she understood it The year is Even the elderly can load the program and play it by themselves. It is easy to use the graphics, as other reviews have mentioned. In spite of that, my children approved of the story and found the characters amusing. Having looked at the interface, it seemed clean, appealing, and appropriate for the purpose at hand. There is a storybook-like style to the animation, and it is simple enough that the program does not consume much CPU power Some graphics show a monster eating its way through a wall A version of chess that is heavy. Several users have expressed dissatisfaction with the cartoon representations of the chess pieces. It appears they are unaware that during the game you can toggle between "regular" pieces and the character pieces whenever you want. For my son, standard pieces are better, and for my daughter, cartoons are better. Despite the setbacks, either of them have gained an understanding of what "regular" items look like. Furthermore, there are a few disadvantages to having to do this. It begins with a series of odd arcade games to introduce the movement of each piece. In spite of this, my children did not really comprehend the principle behind how the pieces move in these games. in the world does smashing toilets have to do with moving a bishop? Even so, these are not major issues. I think it is a very good way of introducing children to the game of chess in a fun and easy way. In about a week, both of my children have learned a great deal, and are eager to learn even It doesn't get better than this for an educational program, does it?.

There is an old style of software
3/5

As a gift to my son age 6, I bought him this software. In spite of our best efforts, we were unable to navigate it. In spite of having been released in 2003, the software is in the "journey format" that was popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The software cannot be downloaded into your computer's hard drive. To use the software, you must have the CD drive inserted, (if your kids destroy the disc, you will not be able to play the game. ) In the journey format, there are so many characters and circumstances that only a tiny amount of chess is played in actual games. As a result of learning how to get from one level to the next
(players cannot progress until they begin to master a level at a time), most of our time was spent figuring out how to progress. My child stopped playing it after a few sessions, so my advice is to avoid it. Detailed summary for "Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chester" A software that imposes restrictions Animation and plot were way over the top A very small amount of chess is being played. In a slightly confusing turn of events, I discovered inside an office super-store "Chess Secrets of the Grandmasters" Hence the name. There is no doubt that it is a good piece, but it costs $29. The program "Chess Secrets of the Grandmasters" is all about chess, and the software downloads directly to your computer's hard drive! It comes with teaching mechanisms such as move take back and move suggestions, as well as After installing the "Chess Secrets of the Grandmasters" software, my kid was actively playing and learning within 15 minutes. His ability to start and play it on his own without my supervision has improved.

We watched The Queen's Gambit, and we were fascinated by it
5/5

This is a great set for kids who enjoyed watching The Queen's Gambit on Netflix and want to learn how to play chess. The students are using it and learning quite a bit from it. Rather than just playing Xbox, they now play chess on some evenings. As a result, I am extremely pleased. There is no doubt that this product is effective.

Great job, I loved There were errors, but I kept getting them
3/5

The game was a big hit with my 9 year old son, who just started playing chess. Her computer then gave her an error message and she was unable to proceed. In order to begin playing again, we sent the program back to Amazon for an exchange, uninstalled and reinstalled the new disk. My daughter then encountered a different error message later in the game, which I assume may be a script The only way we could avoid this error was to keep trying to progress beyond the error, which she had only made it through a third of the way. In the end, she was unable to go any further in After I sent the program back again, explaining the error message we were getting and asking for a refund, I received a "partial refund". I do not know why I did not receive In good condition, I had returned the disk, along with the book and the box in which it came. As a result of my daughter love for the game, I give this program 2 stars. You might find that it works better on someone else's computer. Our old laptop with Win XP and an external CD was running the OS Drive that reads CD-ROMs.

The game is excellent for players of all ages
5/5

Our game has been out for less than a week, and as with a previous review, my 8-year-old has enjoyed the gameplay I don't think you can imagine how much my daughter My daughter will be attending the school my daughter will attend this fall. They require all the children to play chess for 30 minutes or so before instruction begins. Because I have played sparingly in my life, I was a little nervous of how to teach her. I only know the basics, and not much else. After never touching a chess piece before, she was able to grasp all of the basics of the game in just under two The young girl would play for many hours at a time on the computer, and it was difficult to get her off the machine. My opinion is that the key to any successful game is that it instructs the player on the pieces, moves, and object of the game without showing off like a teacher. A variety of mini-games is available It involves smaller games within the player's current game that gradually build to the stage where he or she knows every move in an actual game. As you can see above, I will have to update my review after I play the game myself, since my daughter constantly corrected me while we played it together when I first played it.
