10 stars- I started with my 22-year-old and am now using them with my 4-year-old
5/5

20 years ago, I was a new mother. This was a gift for my older child. I liked it because it kept him occupied for several hours, allowing me to accomplish a number of tasks. (Back in the day, I bought every CD they had. ) My younger son is a techie electronic freak, but he has too much control over apps and even learning from YouTube (covid). My sister told me that if it worked for the older, it would work for the younger, and to my surprise, he really likes it. It took me some time to install it because it didn't do it automatically. It's clear that it's been around for a while- The ability to learn, on the other hand, is unchanged. He was more confident in his ability to recognize his letters after two hours. I was prepared to hire a tutor, but I believe I have discovered the solution. I'm going to order a lot more of these in the future.

Although this product is a little out of date, it still works on Windows 7. My 3- year- It's entertaining for my 10-year-old son, but he still doesn't understand how to complete each game (he's still learning to read). The graphics and usability are both questionable. br>br>The software was created with Windows 95 in mind. Windows XP or Mac OS X are the two most popular operating systems. 6 - It was published in 2002 with a copyright date of 2002, and it has been available on Amazon since 2001. It is not compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. It appears to run correctly under Windows 7, but there are a few graphical issues, such as the colors not rendering correctly and reverting to a 256-color palette. color palette, with the odd mismatch (i. e. black rather than tan, and so on). It switches to its own graphics mode and goes full-screen when it starts up. (This is useful for preventing children from clicking outside of the program by accident). br>br>One of the things I didn't like about it was that it required the CD to be in the drive at all times in order to run. CDs and small children do not get along. Fortunately, I was able to get it to work without a CD (see below). br>br>What I like about the software is that it has a fun story line (and cartoon) that attracts young children's attention while also being educational. Despite its age, it is extremely well-structured. My 3- year- My eight-year-old son quickly figured out how to navigate the menus and jump between activities. It appears that the software is entirely mouse-controlled. They make it a little easier with a big pointer (though the clickable regions could be a little bigger). This set comes with two CDs: br>br> "Reader Rabbit Learn to Read with Phonics" and "Reader Rabbit Dreamship Tales"br>br>How to make it work without the CD:br>1. Make a folder on your hard drive that holds the entire contents of each CD (e. g. "C: "C: Reader Rabbit Learn to Read" and "CD ImagesReader Rabbit Learn to Read" are two examples of CD images. Reader Rabbit Dreamship")br>2. CD Images Reader Rabbit Dreamship Copy the contents of each CD to the appropriate folder on your hard drive. br>3. "Play" should be started. exe" from the hard drive's copies of the CDs to install the programsbr>br>The installation tells the program where it was run from (i. e. the CD's physical location). Because it's being run from a folder on the hard drive, the program assumes that's where the CDs are and runs correctly. br>br>SUMMARYbr>For the low price, this is a nice software package; however, I wish it had been updated to support newer operating systems. If you're using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or a newer Mac OS, you might want to look into other options first.

Spelling Mistakes of Oddity Years ago, there were no such ridiculous misspellings in the original product
3/5

Some words have garbled letters rather than misspellings. The rest of the show is fine, but what's the point if I have to tell my grandson to ignore some of it? It is not worthwhile to return.

I'm not a fan
3/5

There was no box, no instructions, no program requirements to review; all that was included was a disc in an envelope. I'm not convinced.

Is this a pirated product? I bought this product for my children 20 years ago and they loved it, so I ordered it for my grandchildren from Amazon, but it won't play on my computer
3/5

It's a pirated version that's running. Obviously, the grappics were not from a CD. I have other CDs that work fine, so it isn't my computer.

On my MAC, it does not work
3/5

Reader Rabbit, I'm afraid I'm going to have to tell you that you're This DVD- The ROM does not work on my iMac, which is running OS X 10. It was a huge let down. Also, keep an eye out for the 30-day challenge. For this seller, there is a 14-day return window. I was unaware of this, and as a result, I am unable to obtain a refund. My 5-year-old daughter enjoys playing these games at the library, so I wanted her to be able to play them at home as well. I had a similar experience with phonics and math in first and second grade, ages 6 to 12. There were also 9 DVDs, all of which were said to be compatible with both MAC and PC computers. Not so. Oh well! it's time to start all over again!.

It was a hit with my four-year-old daughter
4/5

It took some time for my four-year-old to get used to some of the activities at first, but once she did, she was able to play the game (mostly) on her own. She particularly enjoys the part where you search through a photograph for items that begin with a specific letter. br>br>However, if you intend to use this as a teaching tool, you should play it with your child, as I discovered that my daughter was simply clicking through some of the lessons and not attempting to complete the objectives. Some parts of the game are extremely repetitive, and she was usually clicking to advance the story in those areas. br>br>I reinstalled Windows XP on a computer that was purchased in 2002 (1. 2GHz, 256MB RAM, 1MB video, 40GB HD, 16x CD) and it runs smoothly, albeit a little slowly at times and with some lag when loading between puzzles. I would recommend a slightly faster setup, with more RAM and discrete graphics, but this should work on almost any computer made after 2004.

It was very well received by my daughter
3/5

It went smoothly on the WinXP machine I gave my four-year-old (Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM). She enjoyed the games and was gaining a lot of knowledge from them, but after a few months, the software began to malfunction, primarily due to audio issues, which I was unable to resolve by repairing or reinstalling it. She only interacts with it in fullscreen mode, so there's no risk of her changing settings, and the computer and other software are both trouble-free. Because it's free, I'm guessing it's a bug. It is undeniably antique. I wish you better luck if you try it.
