Questions & Answers

Is there a version for Windows?

It appears to include both the Mac and Windows versions in one box. This box, on the other hand, contains the federal tax return forms for 2005. Is this what you're looking for? If this is the case, the Windows version is certified for use with Windows XP. It might not run on a computer running a more recent version of Windows (such as Vista, 7 or 8).

Why would anyone want to purchase the previous version of this program? Especially when you consider the full price?

What a difficult question to answer. However, the answer to your question (in my opinion) is - I needed to file "back taxes" due to a variety of devastating personal circumstances. Turbo Tax 2004 - I had used it before. & That 2005 resource (in 2012) was provided by Turbo Tax. It was a huge success. and truthfully - catching up with everything – That was well worth a tenfold increase in the "full price." merely stating the obvious. So there you have it.

Selected User Reviews For TurboTax Deluxe 2005 with State Win/Mac [Old Version]

It's functional, but the user interface is so bad that I'm not going to buy it again
3/5

For federal returns, this is a generally usable product with a poor User Interface and Help system; however, for state returns, it falls short of the "usable" mark. I've used the main competitor's name, "Tax Cut: I've used it in the past and found it to have a poor user interface in general, but it was far superior to Turbo Tax. br>br>Here are some examples of a bad User Interface experience: br>br>* If the employer ID number from a W-2 form is entered, 2 If you try to retrieve it from the internet and it fails, you will be asked to re-enter your information. When filling out the W-, use the same ID number. 2 manually entered data * Investment Sales: br>br> I've sold about 20 stocks in the last year, but the window only allows me to see three at a time (with a scrollbar). br>br>* Fill out Schedule D on the form page. If the number of items exceeds the window height, 1 (the continuation form for stock sales) appears on the screen with a scrollbar, but the scroll bar would not allow me to scroll to the bottom two entries. When printing these out, however, they are visible. br>br>* When entering a stock sale, you can indicate that it is worthless, in which case Turbo Tax will tell you that the sale date will be set to 12/31, regardless of what you entered, as required by IRS rules. So, on my next worthless stock, I tried to avoid entering a sale data because I knew it would be overridden, but the program insisted on forcing me to do so, only to override it later. br>br>* While entering federal information was usually straightforward, the state returns (PA in my case) revealed a clear lack of effort. Cryptic questions are posed without explanation or assistance. "For example, enter a change in income and indicate the type of change - Type options include OID, ABP, and others, with no explanation of what these terms mean! It's unclear whether the "adjustment" should be an absolute or a delta amount. When you ask for assistance, you'll be taken to a screen about penalties for early withdrawal of savings, which is completely irrelevant. br>br>* For EVERY stock sale I made on my state return, it took me through three screens. (approximately 20 of them - 60 screens, in other words). I was doing nothing but clicking Continue over and over because it already had the information from my federal return. Much better to hand me a table listing all of the sales and ask me to double-check the data. br>br>* It moved information about my stock sales from my federal tax return to my state return. However, because I was only a part-time resident of the state, it made no effort to calculate or warn me that many of the sales would not be taxable in that state because they were made while I was not a resident. br>br>In conclusion, while Turbo Tax did eventually assist me in completing my tax return, I believe I will return to TaxCut next year.

Taxes are a fantastic program
5/5

After paying CPAs and their assistants to do my taxes for years, I finally decided to do it myself. After learning from a TURBOTAX program that I could get more money back on my taxes, I decided to refile. br>br>I started refiling as soon as I could. This is one of the five years I had to file a new tax return. I can't say enough good things about this tax cut. br>br>Each year, you can see the progress clearly. What kinds of questions are asked, and how does the program keep you moving forward? br>br>The package was delivered on time and in excellent condition. I'll never deal with the CPAs or their henchmen again! br>br>Submit your own br>br> instead of keeping the cash in your pocket!.

There were no issues with installation, and the program did exactly what it said it would
4/5

I had no issues installing this software, but I did make sure to turn off my Norton Internet Security software (as well as another memory hogging program that's always running in the background). br>br>I've been using TurboTax for a few years now, but only with the assistance of a friend who had used the program before me. As a result, this was the first time I completed my taxes using the program alone. I found it to be very simple to use. The only thing I didn't care for was the ending. As a result, the star rating has been reduced to four - were the prompts to register, upgrade to a more feature-rich version, and so on.

Always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always Turbotax is fantastic for doing your taxes, especially after the first year when it carries over your previous year's data
4/5

It is absolutely necessary, in my opinion. I haven't tried any of the competitors' products yet. br>br>I have a cynical suspicion that the disk only comes with an update loader, because the first thing it does is load updates. I live in a rural area with a 24K connection, so it takes me about half a day to download updates. Two weeks later, there are more updates, and two weeks after that - there are no more updates. Let me tell you something. I also had to wait a few weeks for a specific form and my state's state tax to become available.

The user has been with us for ten years
3/5

For as long as I can remember, I've been using Turbo Tax. I've always used their products for both business and personal taxes. I had been pleased with the results in general. However, this year, after spending a significant amount of time over several months working on a complex return, Turbo Tax dumped all of the data, including that which had been saved numerous times over the course of several months. It corrupted everything except 2kb of data, which it can't even open. Of course, you won't be able to contact someone by phone or email. br>br>If I had to choose, I'd give them zero stars. It's been a long time, Intuit.

Getting better by the day
4/5

Turbo- The tax system continues to improve. I discovered the step-by-step instructions on the internet. The step-by-step "interview" process is very efficient and straightforward. It was extremely helpful to be able to enter income and deductions one by one. I took away a few things that I had previously overlooked. The only issue I had was correcting an error in the retrieval of data from last year's Turbo-Tax. Tax data. The instructions for "help" were ineffective; T-'s reply to my email T was nothing more than a reiteration of the help instructions. I finally found a way to fix my mistake after several hours of searching (on and off).

Engage the services of a tax professional
3/5

The IRS took thousands of dollars from me because of this product. I made mistakes, but that did not deter me. Since I hired a tax preparer, I've been able to save a considerable amount of money. Every year, I receive a refund. I was required to pay for three years, and any refunds were also taken by the IRS. in the coming years I even received a refund from VISA due to this product's inability to correctly file my taxes with Disability and my wife's income!.

What other tax preparation software would you consider purchasing? Taxes must be paid by everyone
4/5

Do you want to hire a part-time "consultant" to do it for you, or do you want to put up the cash and do it yourself? You have access to a computer and, for God's sake, you're on Amazon, so use it! br>br>The product itself is satisfactory; it performs as advertised. br>br>My only gripe is the game of chicken you have to play with Intuit when it comes to the rebate. In addition, the version I purchased from Amazon did not include the free filing. You'd think the feds would pay me to file electronically, saving me the time and money of having a meatspace puppet look over my tax return. THANK YOU INTUIT AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
