Questions & Answers

The single unit can be attached to the double unit, can it not?

You could have the floor in between them, but you would have to remove the top of the double nation and the bottom of the single nation to do so. In my case, I have it set up that way. Essentially you have one giant open cage on top with shelves, and one regular cage on the bottom which can be opened into the top cage or left closed. It is also advisable to get another shelf for the upper cage if you choose this approach. If you just need a triple level cage, it may be easier and cheaper to purchase the add on version. only had one that I found on Craigslist, so I did it my way because it was less expensive.

Would grown fancy rats be able to use this?

You guessed it! After breeding rats for over 20 years, I believe this cage is perfect for that species. There is plenty of room for them to move around, and the steel bars make it impossible for them to bite through.

Can you tell me the height of the cage alone?

If you have a single cage, the dimensions are 36"L x 24"W x 24 1/2"H (without a stand).

Do the large trays have solid bottoms? Does the floor above it have any wires? My question is since the cage we have now has a wire floor with a pulley system to clean it Below it is a tray that can be lifted out. ?

There are medal bars at the bottom of the tray. It sits in its own poop if it poos on the tray. Cat litter boxes are great and I use them regularly. I like this cage a lot.

A RAT CAGE THAT IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD
5/5

A final edit The bottom tray is no longer used with a mixing tub. In order to assemble the clear acrylic bottom tray, I ordered various kinds of acrylic cut to size, then used acrylic cement or glue to glue the pieces together. I am so glad for the improvement! Here are some photos I have attached. I reviewed the original version as follows My five pet rats live in a Triple Critter Nation that I got from a double nation and an add-on. There is more than enough room for them. This cage can be used for so many things. A bunch of climbing things and accessories were added to one half shelf, where all the shelves were removed apart from one. This cage allows you to attach accessories easily. One of my favorite things about it is how accessible it is. A suggestion that can be made is to install a deep dish at the bottom to hold the It was necessary for me to buy a mixing tub from Lowe's to put in the bottom to mix The product is worth the price and I would recommend it over In my opinion, I bought both a 699 Martin cage and it is still not comparable. As opposed to buying the second cage that made me spend a lot more money, I should have boxed Critter Nation first. Buying this will not leave you regretting it.

I love the floor tray except for the tray on the bottom
4/5

I think this cage is well made. It does not have any loose components after it has been assembled. The assembly took around 20 minutes and was fairly straightforward. A couple of the walls didn't seem to fit together, but a few rapid strikes with a rubber mallet made them fit. As well, it's much bigger than I thought it would be. It seems to be much better than their previous enclosure for two guinea pigs that I bought it for. My favorite aspect of it is the two big doors that allow full access to the entire enclosure so that I can clean it all out very easily. It's the shallow flooring trays that have most of the complaints to me. The trays do not have higher walls, which I find odd. I end up with loads of bedding all over my floor whenever my guinea pigs move too quickly. There is a serious design flaw here, which needs to be fixed. Had the wall been about three inches higher, I would have given it a 5 star rating. It's really expensive for what it is and has terrible reviews on Amazon. I've seen a scatter tray from Amazon, but it's pretty bad. The idea is for me to build something myself that keeps my floor clean a bit. In general, this is a very solid cage that simply has a cheap bedding tray that holds it back. *UPDATE** I made my own guard using 3 1/2 inch pine boards, which I cut and glued together into a size that is the same With the top perched above the litter tray, it adds 3 1/2 inches to the walls and can be removed just as easily as the litter tray itself. It took me two boards 23 inches long and two boards 33 1/4 inches long to cut the boards.

The cage hack shown here can be used I think this cage is awesome! My two chinchillas love this home and I find it to be so easy to clean and keep
4/5

I will give you one piece of advice, however You may want to check the floor covers because they are made of plastic. The plastic can be chewed through, which exposes your little fellas My cats chewed through their bedding almost immediately, which led to lots of mess as they cheerfully kicked it all around. The window screens I bought from Amazon were used as a drip pan underneath the metal bars on the bottom floor of the cage. They were mounted directly to the support beams under the bottom floor bars. Their bedding, hay, and everything else now ends up on the screen, instead of being scattered across By doing so, I am able to simply pull out the screen, empty it, clean it, and then reinstall to catch more bedding, keeping the floor.

This is an awesome Mix your litter in a mixing tub if you want deep My old cage was so difficult to clean, but this cage is so sturdy and has doors that make it so much easier
5/5

Adding a deep cage pan may require you to use a cement mixing tub from Home Depot. Look for the one that's the same dimensions as the cage, then trim 1/2" of the plastic around the rim and it fits perfectly. I'm not sure what item number that is, but there are only a few.

Cleaning it will be easier when you buy it for this price
4/5

While I have had other cages before, this is by far one of the most easy In most cages, the doors are very small and hard to maneuver between. There are plastic shelves that clip on and you have to wrestle with each time you need to remove them I so love the fact that the double wide doors swing open all the way and that the shelves are not clipped A lot of time is saved by using ons. It takes me about 3 hours to deep clean both of the 63" tall Critter Nations (one for male rats, the other for female rats). It may seem like a lot of time, but part of that is just me waiting for their fleece and beds/hammocks to dry. The first two rats I had, I got them an All Living Things Rat Luxury Home, and to clean only one cage, it took me three hours. and the cages are so small that it is way less cleaning than the double Critter Nation cage. The majority of my time was spent wrestling with the ridiculous plastic clips on the shelves that never seem to want to go on or come off, and trying to adjust myself into some kind of contortionist position to fit/take things out of the The cage is also fun/easy to accessorize. Since the shelves can be adjusted to three heights, you have a fair amount of control over where everything can go. You can attach hammocks to the bottom of the trays, too. In order to further increase vertical climbing, you can add additional lava ledges or bird perches. A star was taken off partially due to the double wide doors that make it nearly impossible to place lava ledges anywhere else than at the front of the cage, unless you have someone here to help I don't really think it matters in the end, however. I agree with other reviewers who have pointed out that there is a possibility that the box may arrive damaged and that the cage itself is difficult to assemble. My cages both have a few small gaps in places where things just weren't lining up correctly, but the gaps are primarily cosmetic in nature. Neither they nor the rats can get out of them, nor do they affect the stability of the cage in any way. There is just something shoddy about it. (This was another reason I removed a )Nevertheless, I am extremely pleased with the I have owned one of these DCNs for close to a year now so I can say with complete certainty that they are.
