It involves a significant risk of injury or illness that isn't required for proper grooming. This is yet another Peter's product that stinks to high heaven. They ignore the body of research that has determined the healthiest rabbit practices, as they do with many of their nutrition products. br>br>I was mortified to open this thing and discover it was a sharp wire brush (I suppose I should have read the description more closely). Rabbits' skin is extremely delicate, as has been mentioned by other forum members. It is from their fur that they derive their defense. Wire brushes go right down to the skin, resulting in skin that is far more delicate than ours. They can also get infected wounds (including resistant infections like staph), just like people. It can be more difficult to treat than people because they don't always show their pain, their fur hides nasty wounds, and their fur makes it difficult to clean/debrid wounds. Antibiotics for treating infections caused by resistant bacteria are not as plentiful as they are for humans. br>br>So, in a nutshell, this scratches poor Bunny with metal, forcing him to take unnecessary risks. Before you do this, try something else. Wire brushes can certainly aid in the removal of shedding hair, but plastic brushes with a clumping agent (water works) to aid in the removal of more shedding hair work just as well with far less risk.
My bunny didn't like it because the bristles were too spiky for a rabbit's skin. I wouldn't recommend it for bunnies.
I attempted to brush both of my rabbits with this, but they appeared uneasy (I believe they prefer to groom themselves). However, I did use it to groom my cat, and she seemed to enjoy it, so I'd say it's a decent product in general.
I was worried that buying this brush would be a waste of money. It works wonders on all breeds and fur types, which comes as a pleasant surprise! I went out and purchased another two. The only change I would make is to make a brush with a smaller width for dwarf rabbits.
For my rabbits, this brush is particularly useful in hard-to-reach areas. Doesn't irritate or scratch their skin, either.
Although the bristles are too sharp for rabbits, it would make an excellent brush for dogs or cats.
