Questions & Answers

How long does this product (unmixed) have a long shelf life? In the event of an emergency, I'd like to have some on hand. ?

In general, you should be able to keep it for more than a year without any issues. So, my pet just got back to normal after using this wonderful product. If I were you, I'd have at least one in my home.

Is it safe for rats to consume this?

Yes, and it will not harm them; however, because rats, like hamsters, mice, and gerbils, are omnivores, it is recommended that a source of protein be included in critical care, such as peanut butter, cooked and ground egg, fresh cheese, and so on.

I combined a tablespoon of each ingredient, but my guinea pig only ate a small portion of it. Is there a way to save the rest of the mixture that has already been mixed?

Refrigerate any leftovers and set it out before giving it to your patients. Your guinea will enjoy it more once it has reached room temperature. I used baby banana pudding as a base for mine. My bunny needed it, so I had to give it to her. She was ecstatic! For your baby, may God bless you with good health.

Is it possible to use this in its dry form to top dress rabbit pellets?

Yes, first grind the pellets into a powder form, don't overdo the pellets because they can cause soft poo or diarrhea in rabbits, and if the rabbit is eating solids, mix the critical care with finely ground hay and a little unsweetened apple sauce to encourage eating.

Thank you so much, Oxbow! Our bunny's life was saved thanks to you! One of our rabbits developed GI stasis, which we discovered after a week of online research
5/5

When our exotic animal veterinarian closed, the project came to a close. We took our little bunny to an animal emergency clinic, where they planned to admit him for "exploratory surgery" (which you should never do; most bunnies die during the procedure, and you don't need to do it if your bunny has GI stasis). I wish I had known about this sooner so I could have had it on hand before our bunny became ill, but it arrived quickly thanks to Amazon Prime (phew). (You never know with Prime; depending on the item, the day you order it, and other factors, it could take up to 4 days to receive an item nowadays with Amazon Prime. ) It's super simple to use; the instructions are on the bag; it comes as a powder that you mix with warm water and feed to your bunny using a feeding syringe that you can get from a pharmacy in the baby aisle. If you're only working with one person, This small bag will suffice for two bunnies; the larger bag is unnecessary. It has a pungent lemony scent, which is disgusting when your bunny poops it out, but you'll never be happier to see bunny poop in your life! Our bunny didn't seem to mind the taste (we tried various organic veggie baby foods and he hated them, but he seemed to like this pretty well considering). ) If your bunny develops GI stasis, do not administer an enema (we were advised to do so by well-intentioned people on the internet, but our vet advised against it). ) What you want to do is get your bunny hydrated at the vet with subcutaneous fluid therapy; we discovered that, as well as the Rx laxative and pain reliever (for his fairly large gas bubble that we saw on his x-ray), helped him get hydrated. ray) have proven to be the most beneficial items for our little bun. He was hydrated twice and was only on pain relievers, laxatives, and this food for three days before resuming his normal routine. When our bun was too sick to move during the night, we set our alarm clock to wake up every two hours to check on him, and when his temperature dropped, we surrounded him with lightly warmed rice bags, which seemed to help bring his temperature back up while also being comforting to him. It's a terrifying experience, so I strongly advise you to have this on hand "before" you need it, just in case.

This was critical to my holland lop's survival
5/5

My vet recommended this brand to me after he prescribed it for my Holland lop. This critical care mix was vital to the survival of my rabbit, who had a stroke and was unable to feed herself as a result; while she didn't care for the flavor, it kept her nourished as she battled to recover. With full-time employment, she faced a significant challenge. She had body paralysis, head tilt, and GI stasis, but after a month of syringe feeding, she was finally strong enough to feed herself and has nearly recovered completely in just two months! She overcame GI stasis in a few weeks, was able to feed herself while laying on her left side around the month mark, and was fully upright eating on her own without her head tilting, able to maintain her balance, and able to hop again after two months. If we hadn't had this for our holland lop, I'm confident she wouldn't have made it past the first week or two. This is a product that I strongly recommend.

This stuff saved my guinea pig Pickles' life this week when she got sick
5/5

I honestly believed she was dying of old age because she wasn't eating, drinking, or moving. I figured I'd give her some of this to keep her from getting too hungry in what I assumed was her final moments. She perked up considerably about 20 minutes after her first feeding, compared to how she had been. I then gave her some of her leftover medication from her previous surgery just in case she was sick, and she's made incredible progress in the last few days. She's eating on her own for the first time in three days, and she's almost back to her old self. If it hadn't been for this product, I would have assumed she was dying naturally (she's almost eight years old) rather than being sick.

Each morning, you simply mix a small amount with warm water (I prefer pedialyte) and suck it down
5/5

Oxbow's Critical Care has literally saved my guinea pigs from death on numerous occasions. This is something you should have on hand if your pig is old, weak, not eating, losing weight, or unable to eat on her own. My ice cream is kept frozen. In the last ten years, I've adopted over 15 pigs, and this is truly CRITICAL CARE. Each morning, you simply mix a small amount with warm water (I prefer pedialyte) and suck it into a 10ml syringe, gently pushing it into your cavie's mouth a little at a time, while alternating the CC with water from a separate syringe. In my pantry, I also keep baby food carrots, which I use with a third syringe. They'll love the taste once they've gotten the hang of it and will be on the lookout for more once they've mastered it. When you're in a situation like this, the most important thing to avoid is dehydration. Their bodies are so small that they can quickly go from healthy to sick. The cage and their little bums must also be kept clean. Unfortunately, this procedure must be repeated every two to three hours; if Critical Care appears to be costly, consider a trip to the veterinarian. A package of syringes is available on Amazon, by the way. Wishing you all the best with your pig! ~ Kim.

Guinea Pig is a small animal that lives in a cage My guinea pig, who is older, became ill unexpectedly
5/5

I took her to the vet, who recommended this product but didn't have any in stock, so I had to order it from Amazon. By combining a small amount of critical care with her liquid multi-vitamin, she created a slurry. With the help of a syringe, I mixed the vitamin with water and administered it to her. Despite the fact that I added the foul-smelling liquid multivitamin, she seemed to enjoy it. This 3-step process was used by me. 4 times per day for 2 days, following the package's feeding instructions for how much to feed her, then as a supplement for 5 days after she started eating her regular food. She has fully recovered and is now back to her old self. The vet didn't give her any medicine, just IV fluids, and I believe Critical Care assisted in getting her some nutrition and water while she was sick. You can adjust the amount of water and Critical Care in the slurry to make it as thick or thin as you want it to be to ensure that it passes through the syringe easily. (I used a CVS-purchased pediatric medicine syringe. ).
