Questions & Answers

With just one rabbit, how long will this bag last?

Our four seven-pound rabbits go through eight 48-ounce bags of hay per month. They are New Zealand breed rabbits.

Is it worth buying this hay trust?

What makes it untrustworthy is beyond me. It appears to me that everything is in order. The same Timothy hay I usually get, but cut and packaged in a way that makes pulling it apart a lot easier.

Is it better to put this in the bottom of the cage or in a feeding rack?

Feeding bin/rack or a flat surface for them to eat from. It's possible that too much of your rabbit's food will fall through the bottom of the cage, though it's unlikely that he'll eat through it anyway.

Is there a limit to how long this can be used?

Yes, hay does expire; even if it stays green and smells like hay, it loses nutrients and can mold if left out for too long. It must be kept dry. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is to use a wicker hamper with a cotton hamper liner inside. Humidity-removing products can also be found in the laundry section of the store. DampRid is a fantastic company with fantastic products. A small dehumidifier can also be used in close proximity to the container.

Animal parts that haven't been identified yet? I discovered a three-inch long frog leg inside my Timothy Hay bag, which disgusted and intrigued me at the same time
3/5

I'm disgusted that there's a piece of decaying animal matter in my guinea pig's food, and I'm curious as to how such poor quality control could exist. Without taking into account the frog leg, the Timothy is also of poor quality. I'm very dissatisfied with this product and will not buy it again, and if you're reading this, I recommend that you don't buy it either to avoid exposing your pets to illness.

For guinea pigs, it's not so good
3/5

I'll admit that the first bag I purchased was fantastic, so I went ahead and purchased four more. a major blunder The first two were odd, dusty with a lot of brown stems and few flowers, and the bottom quarter of the bag was completely pulverized and inedible. The stems were thick, hard, and unpalatable in the second two bags, which were not fresh. Approximately 75% of the trash went into the trash can. These two photos are from one bag; you can see a large brown mass through the window that isn't dirt, but rather a large clump of old hay that had accumulated in their machine over time and ended up in my bag. Gross.

If my guinea pigs enjoy it, I will as well
4/5

For several years, I had been a loyalist to another brand because I trusted its quality. I purchased several bags over the course of several months in order to determine whether I had received a bad batch. Hay is a costly commodity these days, but it is an excellent guinea pig diet. Because I needed to switch brands, I went through a lot of them. So far, I've chosen this brand due to the wafer cut (which I like because it doesn't make a mess). The guineas seem to enjoy it, so the quality appears to be satisfactory. The only thing that bothers me is a strange odor that I've never encountered before in hay. However, if my guinea pigs enjoy it, I will as well.

Rabbits Love It, But There Isn't Enough Hay For The Price I was expecting more hay because the listing stated that it comes in layers, but I was disappointed
4/5

It lasted a little longer than similar-sized bags, but not by much. However, the rabbits absolutely adore it, so I'm undecided about purchasing it again. At the very least, the quality is satisfactory. Because the hay is almost too compact, it can be difficult to grab, but it is much easier to place in the tray. It's been a bit of a mixed bag.

There are a LOT of brown pieces - a great deal of waste: The hay is of poor quality
3/5

Bunz wouldn't eat a lot of the brown pieces in this bag, and I believe there were some dried up "weedy things" in it that weren't hay? I'd never purchased a bag with so many "inedible" pieces before, and it wasn't even close to expiring. I had hoped that my 60-ounce bag would last much longer than a month, but I felt like I had to waste a lot of it: (I suppose I'll just buy locally so I can inspect the hay before purchasing it. ) Oh, and I wasn't sure if "wafer cut" meant the hay was longer, but it was about 10" long, which meant it wouldn't fit in the glass loaf pan I use for Bunz's dish (had to break it in half). Others who use one of those bail feeders may not have a problem with it, but be aware that the "strands" are longer.

This hay's best feature is that it's cut and ready to use
5/5

My one-year-old (born in August) is almost one year old. I had previously ordered large boxes of hay from another supplier, but it was extremely dusty, so I switched to this. This hay's best feature is that it's cut and stacked in such a way that you can easily remove it from the bag without making a mess. It doesn't have a strong odor and isn't dusty either. My rabbit seems to enjoy it the most, and I believe he also enjoys the box it comes in.

Hay Powder is a powder made from hay
3/5

This is a fantastic offer - For 60 oz. , it's less than $8. I can get it for a lot less money than I can get it at a big pet store. BUT I'd go with three. The hay is "ground up hay" in three quarters. " I'm afraid I won't be able to give them to my pigs. When I tried to dig for long strands of hay, fine hay particles flew into the air. In a literal sense. That's the quality of the hay. It's all "powdery" on the floor when they finally settle down. I have to vacuum them up or clean them up with a wet towel. It's impossible to pick up stray hay with human fingers because they're so fine. Bits of these get caught in the larger strands from time to time, and I spend the next few hours worrying that they'll get into my piggies' eyes and hurt them. br>br>I'll pull out a few larger strands and toss the rest into my compost bin.

In the hay, there are a bunch of stickers
3/5

There were a lot of foxtails and stickers in this bale of hay. NOT COOL. I had to discard the pig fleece because it became stuck everywhere in the pig cage. Princess Buttercup had one get stuck in her eye and had to visit the veterinarian. I'm not a fan of what I've seen so far. I threw away two of the bags.
