Questions & Answers
Sorry, but we cannot recommend using this product for anything other than horse tack, which is what it was designed for. Although it appears that others have used it on any type of leather, we are unable to recommend it.
Carr is a character in the film Carr Day & Martin's product line contains proprietary ingredients, and we aren't even told what they are. Please accept my apologies for not being able to provide you with a more detailed response.
I know the Carr, Day, and Martin is over a century old, so it's likely to be different. It's one of the most effective for conditioning, in my opinion. The Queen's seal is the only company that has been approved by her.
Leathermaster products are created with leather furniture in mind. They cannot be used in place of tack treatments.

Before buying this, I read a lot of reviews and got the impression that people were split on the scent. Effax Lederbalsam is the same way, and I adore the beeswax-based scent. I liked the lanolin scent of that one, so I figured I'd like Belvoir as well. Not so! It smells intensely floral, like some strange perfume, and I spent a long time trying to figure out whether it was lily of the valley or ilac. My mother remarked that it smelled like lily of the valley after I made her smell it. I love the scent of *real* lilacs and lily of the valley flowers, but that scent in a leather conditioner didn't appeal to me. I gave it to my mother, and I'm debating whether to use the Effax or create my own. (My only criticism of Effax Lederbalsam, which is otherwise excellent, is that the scent can become rancid over time, most likely due to the use of avocado oil, which has a short shelf life. ) I was considering making my own lederbalsam with beeswax, lanolin, and jojoba oil, which should keep for a long time.
It's been over two years since I've used conditioner on my saddles. I could tell a difference right away with the first coat of this. They appeared to have come back to life after two coats. (They were dry despite being kept in the air conditioning. ) Yes, there is a perfumey odor that I can see being bothersome to some people, but it did not bother me. And, with the product, a little goes a long way, which is always a plus. I read the reviews and decided to use it, and I couldn't be happier. I would strongly suggest it.
This is my favorite kind of material. It not only improves the appearance of my leather, but it also makes it feel a little sticky. I use it on my dressage saddle because it gives me that extra grip I need to sit my horse's trotwork (he sits like a jackhammer). It also has a moisture-repellent quality to it, which I like. When we've been caught out at home and at shows, I've had to use my brand new saddle (it's been almost a year, but it still looks brand new) in the rain a few times. When I know I'm going to be rained on, I put this on liberally before riding, and I never have watermarks or any other kind of moisture marking when I'm done. I didn't put the theory to the test in a torrential downpour, just regular rain.
This is the best saddle leather balm you'll ever find! It's been helping me break in my new saddle after every ride. It also keeps it looking great; it darkens the color slightly (I'm an artist, so I notice these things more than others), but it's not overly so, and I like the result. It has a wonderful scent as well. It's not too oily and absorbs quickly. It comes highly recommended!.
Two boarders at our farm recommended Leather Balsam for my tack, and I gave it a try the other day. My saddle, bridle, and field boots all feel softer after using it! It has a Vaseline-like consistency to it, which I'm not used to, but it instantly transforms the leather. I used a small sponge instead of the one that came with it, which I'm sure is fine; otherwise, it's a great product that I wish I had known about years ago.
On my horse's tack, I've experimented with a variety of leather products. This is my favorite because it maintains the suppleness of the leather. Make sure you purchase from a seller in the United States, as I originally ordered this from a seller in the United Kingdom and it never arrived.
I just tried it on an old leather purse the other day. Basically, all you have to do is wipe it on, wait ten minutes, then buff it off. My purse looked brand new and wasn't greasy or sticky, so it was very simple and quick. After that, I'll work on my shoes. This is excellent protection, especially considering how much I paid for my leather goods.
We've used and will continue to use this high-quality product.
