Questions & Answers

Pumps are rated for 220v, but will they operate on ?

This 110 volt pump is a single-phase

Do you think its too much flow for a 20 gallon long tank (which tends to be shorter than say a standard 10 gal or 29 gal tank)?

When you have small or immature fish, this amount of water may be too much for a 20 gallon long. Rasboras matured well with the 425 and I had green rasboras as well. In fact, I turned the pump off when I bought some young rasboras since they were not strong enough to resist the flow of water

Is this product okay for use in a 10 gallon nano reef tank? (10 x 13 x 20). ?

As a matter of fact, it is commonly found

Can a betta be kept in a 10 gallon tank with the current it's getting?

I think such a tank would be too powerful for 10 gal. The constant water movement is not needed by bettas.

Magnets that are extremely powerful
5/5

Is it possible that I am The results are pretty impressive. For an impeller of such a size, that's a lot of water movement. I just wish it had some way to manage the speed. It is easy to adjust position and use. In the end, I was able to crack through a 10 gallon can using If you need to reposition, be very careful. The failure was completely my fault. I lifted up the magnet on the outside of the tank and it slipped from my fingers before snapping back against the glass, causing the glass to shatter. I replaced the entire tank instead of just changing the broken pane, since it worked fine prior to that. After replacing the damaged pane, the tank was still working fine. the crack was caused by the thickness of the glass, but other people may be using these in small tanks with thin glass as well, so you should also be aware of this if this is also the case for you. As an aquarist, I would recommend this to anyone, however, I would warn them not to move the Hydor Koralia magnet once it is installed, because changing it might cause issues as I did with the magnet. Although a user error, this is also completely avoidable, so potential buyers should not have any concern about it.

There are impellers
3/5

I have never encountered anything as difficult as this. I'm being serious. seems impossible for anyone to create an impeller - An aquarium pump that is not prone to failing in short order, such as a motor-driven aquarium pump. The same is true for this one as well.

First, I ordered a smaller one and later decided it wasn't strong enough to move Although it wouldn't have worked, I would have returned it anyway since the impeller stayed running despite being in the tank for 5 minutes. A common repair for this problem is unplugging it, then plugging it back in. Then for about ten In any case, the first one came back. My next big mistake was getting the biggest I love it, and it's exactly what I need! The exception is. Then, rephrase this. After a while, the impeller starts to sound like it's rattling. It is possible for me to 'fix' it It took some time for me to adjust. Plugging it back in after unplugging it will fix the problem. This is why it's important to have impellers I can't seem to figure out why driven aquarium things are so hard to make, but they all have impellers eventually Problems relating to the issues mentioned above. The only one of the 1,456,782 circulation pumps I've tried that rattles at all is this one, so I gave it 3 stars. That's all I have to say about.

Tips on setting it up right, it's A++, but most people don't
5/5

Powerheads like this make a great difference. The flow will be aimed at the top, but the bottom will still be circulated. The 425 comes in a 29 gallon tank, and most people recommend two, but one is more than enough for me. It appears that they have oriented the powerhead upside down, based on the pictures provided in the review and videos. To follow the directions on the box, follow the picture. Even though it may seem more practical to have the wires come out of the top, it is actually the bottom that should have the cable run. The flat end of the casing should be at the bottom. I mounted mine as high on the tank as I possibly could so that I could get the shimmering wave effect with the lights, and even with that, I still have excellent circulation down at the bottom. When I place it at the middle or bottom, it does a great job of circulating the air. As a result, I end up seeing a lot of plants moved around, which I don't really like. The purpose of this is to give you an idea of its strength. In addition, you need to have the magnet on, or else it makes a very loud noise when you just use.

The pump is great, but it has some minor noise issues that can be resolved by positioning it correctly
4/5

The little pump is awesome It provides pretty strong circulation, and my 30x30 foot square provides plenty of space Tank capacity is 100 gallons. Instead of the larger pump, I am glad I went with the 240 GPH In my opinion, the more powerful one would have been too much There is a lot of stability to the pump, and I like the magnetic "clips" or suction cups or whatever they call it. When using the magnets (which can be removed), there is a suction cup on the pump, but it isn't actually in use. In fact, I enjoy this feature since it allows me to place the pump very easily without having to remove the If you pull off the exterior part of the clip, you can move the pump in no time at all. After the clip is put back, you are done. ***** My only reason for a ***** is because my work is poor The only thing missing from this five-star review is that, occasionally, it can be extremely noisy. There's a reason why it happens, but I can't seem to figure it out There is possibly some vibration caused by the current getting turbulent. The repositioning seems to have resolved this issue, and for the last day or so I've been able to get in a quiet position. It started off quite quiet, but then gradually grew louder and louder over time until it was the most loud item in my aquarium (and I've got a pretty powerful air pump as well as an external canister as well). In the event you purchase one of these and find that it isn't working, try repositioning it, moving the cord, etc. until you can open it. However, I would gladly buy another one of these pumps if it came down to it. As soon as it is positioned, I am very happy with the quality and sound.

You can increase the flow of water with this option! I find this wave maker to be excellent! (1) is being used in a 55 gallon planted aquarium as a supplement to my return system with a flow rate of 400 gallons per hour
5/5

Earlier this month, I encountered a low flow issue in my tank, which this pump eliminated. Under the return I placed the switch, and now the tank has just the right amount of current. I bought this device for my boyfriend and he likes it a lot. He said it is small and about the size of an egg. It also comes with a magnet for outside. Despite having a cord protector and the packaging being great, this is really meant to be used only if you have livestock that might chew through the cord. The setup was easy, as well. The perfect placement will eventually show up if you just play around a bit. This made a huge difference for me, so I had to move my unit from the left to the right side of the tank.

I've had this power head 15 years now and it remains my favourite all around
5/5

The different models range from the 240, 425, 565, and up and they have all been reliable, quiet, and have great flow patterns and flow rates. I have kept freshwater and saltwater tanks for over 15 years now and these are by far my favorite all-around power heads. From mixing saltwater to topping up my ice cream, I use them for a variety of purposes Alternatively, you can adhere them behind a live rock both off and on water. The only thing I have complained about is an internal magnet that rusts on me. It seems that some of the larger, older models may be having issues, but Hydor will gladly send you a replacement part for free. In my contract with Hydor as a company, I will stand by this power head. Having worked in the industry for several years, I think theirs is the most reliable, well built equipment.
