Scissors are a complete waste of time. I'm not sure if it's just my set; I'm sure everyone will have a different experience. The tip appeared to be broken; however, upon further investigation, it appears they came that way from the factory. br>br>Opening and closing the scissors provided a lot of resistance. Despite the fact that I'm a fairly strong individual, I was able to accomplish this with ease. But I can only imagine how quickly my mother would give up if she had to use them. Each movement resulted in a grinding sound. And you can see in the photos how unpolished these scissors are, as if they've just come out of the factory. The blade part isn't smooth, and the paint is peeling away from the grinding. Sure, I could take out my dremel (or go out and buy a wet stone) and try to smooth it out, loosen it up, and oil it up. But, realistically, how many people will be willing to do so? Unless they make good on this, I'd steer clear of it and look for a nicer set elsewhere.
This tool set is exactly what I needed when I first began aquascaping. The storage bag is a nice touch, and the quality is good. I agree that the included scissors aren't the best; while they cut, the screw that holds the two pieces together is ridiculously tight. I wouldn't recommend it if you're trimming something delicate, such as Java moss. However, it will work fine for something with thicker stalks (even if you get a hand cramp). It'll most likely be used for my indoor plants. br>br>Word of advice: Always thoroughly clean and dry your tools. If you're using aquarium salt, make sure to rinse and wipe it down afterward to avoid rust.
The spreader bends a little with use, but I think that's my fault because they're so short and I try not to put my arm in the tank until it's halfway up my elbow, so I'm using the very end of it and it bends. br>br>It's great for my smaller tank, but it's a little short for my 10 gallon, but I'm keeping it because the longer ones are way more expensive for a single piece than this entire set.
This tool set was purchased as part of our aquascaping hobby. The set is fantastic, but the scissors are completely useless. I'd just toss these in the trash. I like the idea of having a set with both curved and straight forceps. The bag was also quite nice, though we do not keep our tools in it.
These are very useful instruments. I wish they were a little longer, but I'd rather get the tips of my fingers wet than my entire hand. Giggidy.
However, my tanks are a fairly standard height, perhaps a foot of water, and these are short.
The tools are well-made and have a nice finish. Their storage bag, on the other hand, does not appear to be of high quality, but it does the job.
This is a fantastic toolkit! Curved scissors are useful for cutting back on excess growth, and a shovel is useful for planting. Planting is made easier with curved and straight forceps. Everything is contained within a stylish case. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this set.
