Questions & Answers

Is it necessary to use silicone?

You don't have to silicone it to the aquarium, but it's a good idea because it'll bow due to its insatiable desire to float.

Suction cups for heaters and hose lines will stick to this background, right?

It has a rock-like texture to it. If all else fails, suction cups and decor made of aquarium grade silicone can be used to stick to the background.

Could strong magnets on the back hold this in place? Siliconing this in place does not appeal to me. ?

It'll be amusing to see. Get some aquarium silicone and smear it on the inside of the glass as well as the backside of the background. This is the most effective method of accomplishing your goal. The use of magnets is a farce.

Are HOB filters compatible with this? I have a 55 gallon tank that measures 48w x 13d x 20h on the outside and 48w x 13d x 20h on the inside. ?

It can be used with both a 55 gallon and a 75 gallon tank.

Warning! Be wary of buyers! My African Cichlid tank and other fish were on the verge of extinction if it hadn't been for my wife's prompt arrival home
3/5

For the first couple of days, everything was fine until we noticed all of our fish (30+) floating and gasping for air. My PH level plummeted, while my Nitrate levels soared. Prior to installing an established aquarium, I followed the instructions provided in the package. Fortunately, I have several other tanks in which I was able to relocate all of the fish and administer medication. I wasn't able to save them all, but I wanted to warn anyone considering purchasing this product; I'm currently working on restoring my 55gallon to its previous state. Please be cautious.

FISH ARE KILLED! BUYING THIS PRODUCT IS A MISTAKE! FISH ARE KILLED! I keep a fully cycled saltwater aquarium
3/5

Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH levels were all excellent. The fish were gasping for air after being placed in the background after a thorough rinse (the only change). I was able to save every one of them and did a 100% water change after removing the background. The background has been removed. For a couple of hours, the fish were fine, but then all but one vanished. LFS double-checked the parameters, which were still fine. I'm about to toss the sand because it could have absorbed the toxins. Other than that, there's nothing else to say. According to some reviews, this is a fantastic product. Don't take a chance! I'm not sure if the materials differ because they're made in different places. In any case, I PROMISE that this is the source of my problems; DO NOT BUY!.

This is a MUST HAVE if you have a corner tank! This is a stunning tank at an incredible price; the photo shows a 54 gallon corner tank
5/5

The flimsy background crept in and gave me a tummy ache. On the bottom, I drilled a small access hole. (To allow fish and snails to pass through) Drill a few holes to allow free flow of water, and I'll be happy. br>Worth every penny and transforms your tank into something completely different. br>br>Editor's Note: This article has been updated. The background still looks as good two years later as it did when I first received it. (It's even better now that algae has grown on it, giving it the appearance of a natural rock wall. ) I'm not sure what the other reviewers are referring to when they say they're having PH issues. I've never had a single spike since day one, and I was worried that the rubber mat's coating would flake off over time, but I've had no such problems. If at all possible, I would avoid using silicone, as I did. It is necessary for me to pull it off in order to properly clean the glass, and it will be a much more time-consuming process than it should have been. br>I can't say enough good things about the product, and I'm going to buy another sheet to cover a couple of smaller tanks I have around the house. (After all, who says you can't have eight aquariums in your home?).

Be careful who you buy from
3/5

The products pictured looked lovely, as far as I was concerned. Infact, I woke up this morning and found the first fish floating off the top of this container, so put them in a tank and make sure that rocks or floats are at the center.

Make a plan for your project, and you'll enjoy this product! From a 38 gallon tank, I recently upgraded to a 75 gallon tank
4/5

There was a lot of people in there, and it was starting to feel a little crowded. I made the decision to take the plunge- I was captivated by the background and decided to "jump in. " I'm very happy with the outcome! Fair warning: Carefully consider how to install this item. The following is how I work. First, I LAYED THE TANK ON ITS SIDE SO THAT I COULD PLACE IT MORE PROPERLY IN THE BACKDROP AND MATCH IT WITH THE BACKGROUND. After that, I sprayed the background with a full tube of aquarium sealant. I paid special attention to the edges, assuming they'd be potential trouble spots if they started to loosen. I'm so glad I took the chance. For the new setup, I was fortunate in having a few bags of aquarium sand and shale stones on hand. I glued the background to the back of the tank and strategically placed the sand bags and shale on top of it to keep it in place and create a strong bond to the glass. I let it dry for an entire night. As a result, you'll have a perfect, secure fit. Love it! It comes highly recommended. if you have the patience to go through the "pre-processing" You'll be very pleased with the end result if you put in the effort.

It appears to be a ONE-OF-A-KIND piece! It looks great and fits perfectly in my standard 75 gallon aquarium! br>I installed this in my Discus tNk, which are extremely sensitive to changes in water parameters, and my fish are doing just fine one month later; however, I would ignore the negative reviews claiming that the background killed their fish
5/5

It wasn't the background that did it was 100% something they did because of their own ignorance that did it. This is a fantastic product that has completely transformed the appearance of my tank. Next, I'm going to get one for my 125 gallon tank.

It's not all about the fish! In my bearded dragon tank, it provides a nice natural backdrop
4/5

Crickets can no longer hide behind the previous background, which was falling apart; this is much better, and I expect it to last much longer and be easier to maintain. br>If, and when, my Beardie passes away, the bonus is that if it survives, I can convert my tank back to an aquarium and use this background. It's overpriced in my opinion, and I believe it could be reduced in price. It had better hold up for the price. br>br>I did use aquarium safe silicone in some parts for extra security and to keep it in place because I find the clips useless and they don't reach around the top of my tank. If the background had fallen on my Beardie while I wasn't looking, I'd be mortified.
