The filters were lifted a bit by my wife so there was a clearance between them and the tank when we installed them. The tape was taped into place after the position was adjusted. Months have passed since I looked for the right solution, and here it is. There is an extreme amount of thickness to the vinyl, making it water resistant and tear-proof. Rolling it up neatly was the way it arrived. It only takes a few pieces of tape to secure it. In the end, I wasn't even required to do that my filters kept As a result, its size was perfect for my 90 gallon tank (48"x24"), and it did not need to be trimmed, though it would be simple to do so if you wanted.
