No, if you're going to set it up in the grass or dirt, you'll need stakes or something to secure the pole in place. It kept tipping over when I tried to set it up on the grass. One side would begin to tilt, followed by the other. If you're setting up in concrete, it might be better, but weights of some sort on the ground are still recommended.
I don't think there's any reason why it shouldn't be done. The only flaw I have with this set is that the poles (that stand up) are easily knocked over because there is only one pole on the ground to support one side, so my dog kept knocking them all over.

It's great that it can be taken apart if necessary. It is, however, very easy to disassemble. If you don't have level ground, don't do it outside. It only lasted a day after I assembled it. The next day, everything is strewn about on the ground.

It has a very low weight. I won't use it outside because it's too light; instead, I'll save it for use indoors on snowy winter days.
The weave poles are precisely what I needed for home training. They come together quickly and are easy to store.
It's very simple to put together. If your dog slams into it, it won't be difficult. If you have a dog that chews a lot or is mischievous, don't leave it out in the yard.
I'm very pleased with the product and enjoy using it with my dogs to help them gain confidence. Win!.
It's a never-ending task for me to reassemble it. When it all comes together, I enjoy it.
