In short, yes. My personal strategy is to use them in this manner.

Are animals the only ones who can benefit from this product?

However, I don't think there's any reason they couldn't be used on people as well if they're made for animals. The clippers are excellent and I have bought three pairs for a veterinary clinic. Despite their light weight and quietness, they can be used for more than an entire day. There is only one complaint the blades are rather expensive and require special clippers.

My purchase was at a price I could afford on Amazon

The price I paid for it six months ago was about half of what I paid today. Price changes are inevitable, so you should decide for yourself when you place your is a surgical blade. It gives a good cut, giving a very close line. The blade was purchased specifically to use on my cat, whose coat mats constantly. I couldn't use scissors to cut through them, so I ordered this. As of yet, I haven't tried it, so I'll have to update when I do. My beard responded very well to it when used on it.
