I had the same concern when I purchased this. I've seen responses that claim there's a breakaway version, and the item's packaging claims it's a breakaway, but I wouldn't call the collar a breakaway collar. The buckle is one-sided, with the opposite end threading through it and friction holding it in place. I couldn't get it apart, so I'm not sure how my 8-pound cat would get out of it if she ever got stuck. If you still want to use it, you can zip tie it to a real breakaway collar, as another user suggested. This is what I did, and I'm not concerned about my cat getting hurt while wearing it.

Year- Scratching in the house, old Kitty. Unfortunately, she died in the living room on December 24th after her jaw became entangled in this product, which I made sure was tight and secure around her neck. I wish there was a way to go back to before I bought it, but there isn't one for the worst-case scenario, and if there is, it fails miserably. I'm writing this review not to exact vengeance on the product, but to prevent other people's children from suffering the same fate as mine. Nobody should have to experience the heartbreak of losing a cat due to a broken jaw and suffocation, as I did.
After reading the reviews that this product could harm kitties by becoming stuck in their mouths, I decided to share my methods for using it. I use regular breakaway cat collars and cut the calming collar just a little shorter than the length of the breakaway collar. The calming collar is then secured on the inside of the breakaway collar with zip ties or rubber bands. This method has proven to be very effective, with the added benefit of being able to line two collars with just one product (assuming your cats aren't particularly chunky). I strongly suggest it because it encourages our boys to be more considerate of their sisters.
VERY DANGEROUS! Purchase is not recommended. Although I followed the fitting instructions, the collar became caught in my kitten's bottom jaw while I was away at work. I had to rush her to the emergency room, which resulted in jaw tissue damage and wounds on both sides. I was disappointed and upset when I emailed the company.
I used the Sentry collar on both of my cats and it rubbed off a large chunk of fur all the way to the bear skin under the neck on both of them. I'd performed a one-finger under-collar check. It wasn't too clingy. Short-haired cats should avoid using this material. They now have burned skin, and hair will take a long time to regrow.
My cat's collar became stuck over his bottom teeth and wedged into his mouth like a bit within three minutes of being put on him. His tongue, gums, and mouth were all cut, and he began to bleed profusely. I couldn't get the collar off, so I scruffed the cat while cutting it off with scissors. He can't close his mouth right now because it was badly cut.

From a total of five (extremely unique) cats, the following are the results: One didn't like it (wouldn't wear it); another didn't like it (wouldn't wear it three of them sighed contentedly as they flopped over. It has a certain appeal. It's well worth it because of the peace it brings!.
