I really like the all-natural look. It's great that the toys don't have any paint on them. My conture adores the new coconut house, but the reason I gave it a four-star rating is because the second set was purchased for my parrokett. A parrokett cage cannot be placed in a coconut house because it is far too heavy.
My parakeet is enamored with his coconut nest and toys. However, I do have some reservations. The products are well-made, but the wooden perch is unsteady because the screw that connects it to the cage had come loose and wouldn't go back in easily, so I hammered it in a little to give the screw something to grip. When my bird sits on it, it's shaky, so I'm not happy with it. I won't be putting the star toys in the cage because they have very sharp staple edges protruding from them. All of the toys are made of nice wood that doesn't chip or splinter, which is a plus. Overall, it's a nice set; I just wish they'd been a little more careful with the hardware placement.
The small perch and bells are favorites of my parakeets. I'm hoping they'll like the coconut because it's something I've wanted to get them for a long time and it looks fantastic. All of these toys are at a great price, and I like that they aren't dyed, which means I don't have to worry about the dye being safe. The little twig perch is particularly adorable, and they make frequent use of it.
At first, I was enamored with this set, as were my birds. However, they began to eat the coconut fibers on the birdhouse as well as the rope that was attached to it. They were in such bad shape. Birds are poisoned when exposed to it. Do not purchase.
When I was installing the short, straight perch, the hardware fell out, and it no longer fits. I believe the screw's internal threads were stripped. Because of the potential for fumes with my bird, I'm not going to use glue to fix it, but I'm sure it can be fixed in some other way so that it doesn't go to waste. The only other issue is that my budgie is uninterested in the hut and bridge toy (which is not a defect in the product).
The majority of the toys in this set appealed to me. Since the coconut house won't fit in the birdcage, I'm thinking about turning some of the toys into a playground for my parakeet. The coconut house I received was made from a fairly large coconut, so a parakeet and other small birds should be able to fit inside. I'm not a fan of the artificial odor, so I'd suggest giving the toys a gentle scrub and rinsing.
On the bells, there are a few rusted parts. The rest of the menu appears to be satisfactory. The wooden perch and a small toy with wooden beads are favorites of our parakeet. He has yet to express an interest in the large wooden toy with the star on top.
My birds were in desperate need of an update, so the "natural" look is ideal. Although I'm not sure if they'll use the coconut, it's a nice touch.
