I'm sorry, but I must concur. I have a small pool that is simple to set up (8' x 30"). The strips were delivered to me a few days ago. Today I used one. There was no chlorine and the alkalinity was low. None. I did use bleach a few days ago, and it left my hands feeling dry and smelling strongly of chlorine. br>As a result, I poured in the required amount of bleach to shock the system. I decided to test again about 2 hours later out of curiosity. There has been no change in the chlorine level! br>I decided to try again, this time dropping the strip into a cup of pure bleach. What do you think? "1" was the reading, i. e. e "It's fine to swim in the pool. " " What? Is it a one if you use straight bleach? That's absurd and clearly incorrect. To get a reading of "1" on these strips, I'd have to fill my pool with pure bleach, according to these strips. That is insane, and it is extremely dangerous. I'm returning the strips, and if you want to avoid injury, I recommend you look elsewhere.
This is one of the most precise strip tests on the market. It's quick, precise, and simple to use. There is only one better test, the pool master 6 way test, which includes total chlorine/bromine vs. just free chlorine like this test. (It also includes better plastic strips not paper) Once your chlorine levels are in range, just having free chlorine is fine; however, when you are low, you need to see the total chlorine as well because free chlorine does not even show up and if it does, it goes away quickly. I kept the box in my garage for over a year and was pleased with the results. After that, I put it in a resin poolside storage box that gets plenty of Texas sun for the better part of the day, and the strips started giving me completely different results for all four readings after about a week. I didn't make the connection at first and assumed my pool chemicals were all messed up, but then it occurred to me that the strips may have gone bad due to the extreme temperature change in storage. I ordered a new box and took measurements with both the old and new strips at the same time, which confirmed my suspicions. I also noticed a warning label on top of the package that says "store at room temperature. " That's what I'm going to do starting today.

I figured they'd work well because they're sold by a reputable spa supply company. So far, I've used about a dozen test strips, and the only issue I've had is that one strip only activated half of the chlorine pad. It could've been a case of user error, I suppose. The pH and alkalinity tests appear to be very accurate because they match up perfectly with the Nature2 Test Strips I use. I've observed chlorine results ranging from 1% to 5%, so they appear to work.
