Questions & Answers

Do the sheds have to be constructed on a concrete or cement To build the shed, I thought I would just level the ground and install cement blocks around it. ?

Ideally, it would be on a solid floor, but concrete is not essential. For doors to operate properly, a level surface is necessary. Otherwise, the doors won't align properly as they open and close. In any case, the floor is made up of lightweight panels of plastic that snap together, so it needs to be solid, not just a few block supports. On its own, the floor won't be able to support much weight. In the basement, I poured 25 concrete blocks on sixteen inch centers I nailed 4 x 4 posts and 2 x 4's on edge to rest on the blocks, and then I installed pressure-treated plywood laid half an inch thick on top. As we shimmied the corners of that rather rigid floor, I was able to align the doors easily. The ground could be leveled and paved with concrete blocks, but it would have to be an exceptionally well done job to support the plastic flooring.

Do the trusses hold up to a bicycle hanging from them?

There is no need for me or anyone else to make this determination because an opinion is just that, an opinion, and can In my opinion, the shed is okay and we hang our clothes on the trusses, but the clothes don't weigh as much as a bike and there is a lot of stability in the weight distribution. For months the bike may have sat in the rafters, but one day it may I messed up. I wish you the best of

It might be good for motorcycle storage with a wood deck base. It is important for me to find I thank you for your help. ?

The deck in my backyard has a slope, so I have my laptop on it. It looks great and I am very happy with it. There is no doubt that the steel sheds will last longer than wooden ones. The only drawback of a vinyl shed is you cannot build in shelves as cheaply as you could do with a wood shed. By screwing into the walls, you could potentially compromise the structure of the walls unless you use the expensive shelving kits they make specifically for the shed.

There is a Lifetime Shed Model 6405 available
3/5

I purchased this item on July 6 and I received it on July 14. The package came in two long boxes on one pallet 6 feet long. Weighing over 500 pounds, it was extremely heavy. I was very impressed with the driver. In the garage, he put the crate. I was very happy with the packing of the shipment. There are several large tears and holes on the boxes, but everything else remains intact. There were no problems with any of the parts. A large number of screws and other items are included. The manual does not even mention some of them. Lifetime actually instructed me to build a pad and to even put blocks under corners and through the middle from the front to the This is a true and level statement. As soon as the shipment arrived, the project was complete. Several details are omitted within the instructions and do not follow a logical order. These instructions/manuals are written by someone without any training or clue on how to write them. It took me far too long to watch many videos on the web and Lifetime website. Though useful, the detailed information would have made the assembly of this shed much easier. There are videos that show how easily (ha ha) the corners and walls can be glued together, while each panel 'snaps' shut as it assembles. It was evident that three of them actually snapped whilst I was assembling them. (Please note If the male plugs are inserted into the holes at the wide end of the slots, and then the wall is slid forward there will be no snapping noise. I did have to cut excess plastic from some holes to get the 1) I put in the first corner panel fine and put in the long panel with the window fine until I attempted to put in the In other words, the male end of the panel needed a longer/wider slot to snap into the female floor holes. The slots in the male end of the panel to snap into the female floor holes were 11/2 inches too short. (Per Lifetime customer service) Took the wall apart three times and used a rubber mallet to make sure the panels were tight. Despite the instructions given by Lifetime, most panels did not snap into the slots. I finally succeeded in putting the corner pieces into the floor section after using a mallet. As of now, we have assembled the shed in three hours with help from my wife. After completing all walls and getting our friends to help put in the roof and door (one of whom had previously done this), we completed the project. As of this moment, the carpet and pad are both perfectly flat and true. Leveling the shed for the last time is important as it will be the last time it will be It is notable that screws had not been inserted into many holes. In many cases, the new plugs still had hard plugs in the place where a hole should have been. As processing equipment is not producing the product correctly, it does not seem like quality control is in place at the factory. To assemble the roof trusses and insert the plugs, we had to drill, punch, and cut them out. We opened the shed 6 a. m. and started assembling it. After about 2 p. m. , everything was finished The meeting will start at 30 p. m. In addition to this, you will need to devote at least six hours to constructing the shed's pad. It turns out that there are some problems with the trusses, but they can be fixed relatively easily. Many holes on the shingle panels did not match up during installation, making the assembly of the roof difficult. Despite the fact that it wasn't level and true when the wall was put up, the shed pad and floor were level and true. Although the roof material and trusses had to be bent and pushed to fit the walls, and thus the tops of the wall panels had to be moved. all the walls and the ceiling to be out of level as the walls no longer lined up and the ceiling rose somewhat at the perimeter when the roof was put on, causing all of the structures to be out of It boils down to two main issues Making sure the doors fit and are level before installing them. A second problem is that when you put something that is fairly As an example) in the shed the floor is no longer level, and the doors are no longer level and true to, and they will not close without adjusting them. To accomplish this, you will need to continue to apply shims under certain areas of the The shed will not be level and will not be able to close with this problem. I will not be able to anchor shed to platform as it is a forever issue. There is a problem with the construction of the doors. It is impossible for the doors to remain level and true in the absence of any real door frame. This makes it impossible for the doors to close correctly or As a result, the edges of the door tops are out of level and have to be continuously shimmed (as instructed) and they are always too close together at the points where the edge should meet the door locking mechanism. Aside from that, the bottoms of the doors are not straight and are not When the bottoms rub against one another, it makes it very difficult to close to one another. It would be advantageous to have a hard doorframe to solve this issue. It is also difficult (sometimes impossible) to close the doors precisely because the vertical gaps between the doors are very narrow (wider at the top than at the bottom). On top of that, the door handle locking plates stick out more than 1/4" on either side of each door edge (right or left door in the picture) preventing one either from closing the door (when doors are out of level daily) or from closing the door while pulling the right door toward one. Having these two plates constantly bump into each other not allowing them to slide by like they should is never ideal. (Again, this issue would be avoided if the door frame were real. the platform (per the Lifetime instructions), but I am worried that this will prevent me from shimming under the It's possible that I'll try anchoring the shed in the future and hope the doors work. As soon as I have updated this review, I will post it here. It's a bummer that this shed will melt, as it gets hot in our hot climate, sometimes reaching Among the Pros This product features good indoor height, making it easy to stand upright for people who are six feet tall without bumping their heads. There is enough storage space in the room. A better option than your typical thin metal sheds that are really thin and The cons are Do not store anything of real value in this shed since it is not very strong. The assembly instructions for this product are poor. It is easy for walls to bulge in or out (but they do spring back) if they are touched or if light objects lean I have not yet had any rain, but I am certain that this shed will Drill multiple holds in the deck or platform to allow for drainage, and even the instructions emphasize this. They are poorly designed and difficult to use/closing. They require constant adjustment and are difficult to use. A skylight is an odd thing. This is not a transparent roof and it is the same color. This is not a skylight, therefore they are not required, and the roof should be designed to be easier to assemble. The set requires at least three people to put together, and it is not easy to put together even then. As I was writing this review, I tried to bring forth the problems and describe possible solutions as honestly as I could.

The shed is great
5/5

I assembled the unit from start to finish in five hours. We've had a lot of fun building this It took me a full year to write a review because I wanted to see how it held up (especially in upstate NY winters). We've had a lot of fun over the last year. It still looks good and the doors and latch still match up well. I had a lot of trouble putting this together (I assembled it in May 2015). From start to finish, it took me 5 hours to complete as long as you lay it all out and check twice that you have the pieces oriented correctly. Neither my partner nor I had any help. There is a YouTube video that served as a help when it came to mounting the doors (such as how to set them). On top of a 2x6 frame topped with 3/4" pressure treated plywood, I installed this on a pad constructed of pressure treated wood and After assembling the pad for five hours, it was ready to use. Including the pad, it took me 10 hours to complete all of this.

As for the winter - I don't know yet. In terms of winter temperatures, we had a mild one. Despite this, I was concerned about how heavy the snow would be. The snow brushed off my brow twice over the course of the winter (each time there was a A garage broom will do the job just fine. We always have 50 to 100 inches of snow this time of year, so I plan to build a simple brace out of 2x4s to place inside the shed just in case we get one of our typical winters with 200 inches of snow.

I like the shed, and there are I think this shed is pretty cool
5/5

It was the first shed I purchased after becoming sick of combating carpenter ants in the past with wood sheds I had and built. The one area I was worried about was the door fitting and being able to open. Others have told me that the doors do not fit right, or they have to kick at them to shut them. Well, one thing I can tell you is make sure you build the platform for the shed as level and straight as possible, because it will affect how the shed turns out. Mine was very good, I just had to make sure it was right. The shed went together pretty well. For plastic sheds, you will have to bend areas here and there to make it fit, but otherwise it was not too difficult to put together. Although the doors were a bit off as it was, this kit comes with shims that allow you to adjust them until they fit and shut as they should. Having eliminated ants from my home, it means that I won't have to battle them anymore. I would recommend it.

I'm living in a lifetime Outdoor Storage Shed measuring 8 feet by 8 feet
5/5

We can use this size of shed for garden tools, pool supplies, and our I would have built one with matching siding and shingles for much less time if this were built with the same color scheme as my house. The total cost (foundation + shed) is comparable to what I would have paid for a DIY project. The wood foundation, which is constructed of 2x6 joists 16" OC under 3/4" pressure treated 4'x8' plywood and 4x4 posts in sakrete fast set concrete mix, was chosen due to the steep slope of the site. In our case, the foundation was constructed using the measurements we provided within two days. In the instructions, it is not stated that the diagonal is 12' 6 3/4". Another two six-hour days were spent attaching the side panels to the floor and erecting the shed itself. The wife helped in the process. Having just one person do that would not be fun. My Porter Cable screw gun was used on a very fragile-looking piece of furniture It is set to an extremely low torque. The metal trusses in my house are occasionally weighed down by deep, wet snow, so I brace them with a couple of 2x4s from the floor up to the trusses in the winter months and I am not concerned. The corners of all 4 boxes were also secured by anchor straps. There just seems to be not enough lag bolts in the floor to support the weight. Overall, the quality of all the parts is wonderful, even though it's certain that if the upper door latch gets too much use, like others have stated, I will need to replace it. It's harder than I thought to believe that the fit and finish are as good as all the good reviews claimed. Originally, the packing description was confusing but it came in two packages eight feet long and weighing two tons. Each is unique. I like this shed very much. I just wanted to let you know about the 6/22/14 update. While I forgot to install the roof supports for the winter, it held up better than I thought it would There are storms that bring 12" of snow. I agree with those who have said that the door latch is not an appealing This item still qualifies as a five-star product since I will be installing a latching door bolt.
