It would be great if I could install the jets directly into the 1/2 "pvc pipe. If so, does tapping the hole prepare it for screwing in or should i drill the hole first?

The nuts can be screwed directly into 1/2" PVC pipe you do not need to tap the hole.

do you mean by a low pressure situation? If I were to use with five, I would prefer to Does 10psi work?

At 60 psi, I am using them on my patio cover. A nice spray pattern about 3 ft in length and 2 ft in width is created.
