I was apprehensive because our pond friends are over ten years old and extremely friendly, and we've grown quite attached to them. We kept a close eye on everyone and noticed that everything was fine after 3 hours, so I added the rest of the dose. What a wonderful group of people! They appeared to become more silly and playful as time went on. I can only explain their behavior as a result of improved gill function. We had an algae problem after about two weeks and had to move everyone out for a water change and clean out, so early scale 'pineconing' from parasitic invasion on one fish's side was nearly gone upon visual inspection. When it came time to refill, I didn't hesitate to add the recommended dose. I also purchased a water meter to monitor the salt content of our ponds. I didn't realize this could improve their quality of life all these years as a pond keeper.
I'm docking a couple of stars because I received a 10-pound bucket that had been shipped on its side with no protection and the lid had come open. Salt was spilling out of the bottom crack of the box when it was handed to me by my postal carrier. Only half of the 10-pound bucket was delivered to me. I've ordered this brand before and had the same problem with the bucket tops coming off in shipping, but the company was quick to send me a replacement. This time, I emailed the company and they requested photos of my less than half-filled bucket, but there was no way to send photos through the company's email, so they did nothing to fulfill my request. Also, the salt granules were very small this time, whereas they were about a 1/2 inch or so the previous times I ordered. They were all less than an eighth this time. It's possible that this is due to the larger pieces falling out during shipping. Anyway, if I'm not satisfied with spending money with a company that makes you feel like you're lying and doesn't care about keeping their customers happy, I'll go back to using my old product from API, whose lids screw on their jars and are less expensive but just as good. I bought because the company stood behind its product, but things may have changed, and I liked the larger pieces of salt, though they were also smaller. It's almost as if they've changed hands or something.
The salt level in my 10,000 gallon Koi pond was easily raised with this product. My water was still perfectly clear. To avoid overdoing it, I suggest investing in an electronic salt concentration tester. While salt is beneficial, too much of it can be detrimental. My fish's colors appear to be more vibrant, and I'm confident that they'll be better protected from parasites this winter.
The koi pond became infected with bacteria, and three fish died in two days. The remaining fishes' health had improved by the next day after being treated according to the dosage instructions. They began to eat again and were no longer lethargic or hiding near the pond's bottom. To avoid any serious health issues in your ecosystem, it is highly recommended that you keep some on hand.
Koi, minnows, plecos, and a turtle live in this new outdoor pond. I was sick with an infection; Nothing changed after two full treatments with Melafix and Pimafix. As a last resort, I used this salt, and my koi are now free of infection! Minnows are still battling it, but they are making significant progress.
I really like this product, but this is the second time I've received one with the lid off and half of the salt still in the cardboard box. Because a couple cups of salt have spilled out of the cardboard box during shipping, the salt should be placed in a sealed plastic bag inside the plastic container before it is shipped.
The product is satisfactory, and it appears to meet my pond needs. br>Unfortunately, the packaging could be better, as it broke open inside the outer box during shipping, causing a mess. I also misplaced some of the product because the outer box was not completely sealed, and some of the salt spilled out before it arrived at my house.
For years, I've used this salt in my pond. Although the product is good, the lid on this order was partially open, and the salt was in the box and leaking out. I was down to my last half. The container should be sealed in a more efficient manner.
