I've had my Globe Barometer for 6 months and have never needed to replace it. When you get it, you fill it with water and a few drops of food coloring of your choice (about 1/2 cup), and it doesn't seem to evaporate. It's gotten to the top of the bowl, but it's never overflowed.
The continents are etched into clear glass. I really like how it turned out. I colored the water with blue food coloring before filling it. Everyone compliments it on how lovely it is.
No, there isn't an overflow dish included. Mine hasn't had a problem since I set it up, and we've had some crazy weather here in Denver recently. Mine is on a bookshelf at about eye level, on a glass saucer I purchased in the candle aisle of a craft store. However, if placed in a bright window, It will erupt like a geyser as the temperature influences it. My kit included clear instructions and a syringe designed specifically for filling it. Fill it with distilled water at room temperature, as directed by the instructions. I really like how the continents are etched on it with such care, it's a nice touch. I really hope you get one because they're really cool!

com). When I saw the packaging, I had second thoughts about ordering a glass item through the mail, and I was expecting glass shards. I did not receive the usual oversized Amazon box stuffed with air bladders. In this case, that may be a good thing because those boxes are frequently crushed. Instead, I received a small white pasteboard box that was about the same size as my weather glass. I heard movement inside, and when I opened it, I discovered a thick styrofoam cube with cutouts for the glass, a filling syringe, and a hose. And there was no crack in the glass. br>br>The filling instructions suggest having someone else hold the globe or balancing it on a coffee mug while you fill it. I'm not sure why they don't say to put it in the styrofoam packaging with the glass neck facing up. That's exactly what I did, and it worked flawlessly. The fit is snug, so the globe will not move while you remove the syringe from the hose to refill it (20ml syringe, 100ml globe). br>br>I don't recall seeing anywhere in the description that you had to bring your own water coloring. I had a potassium permanganate water treatment for my fish on hand, and a few drops of that worked great, saving me from having to buy food coloring I wouldn't use again.

My husband enjoys weather-related items, so I bought this as a Christmas gift for him. We were able to follow the instructions without difficulty. We placed it next to a window and it works perfectly. He has one of those small weather stations with a man dressed in appropriate attire for the current weather. So far, the barometer glass has been perfectly in sync with the weather station. The best part is that it is entertaining to watch.
This charming barometer was purchased to replace an old wall model that had broken some time ago. This little "antique" barometer is not only attractive, but it also functions as a reliable indicator of barometric changes. The liquid level in the neck will drop when the barometric pressure is high. When the barometric pressure is low, the liquid level in the neck rises, which may appear counterintuitive at first, but the logic holds true once you understand how it works. It becomes second nature to keep track of changes in barometric pressure. Because this is blown glass, I do not recommend it for children or ham-handed people. It should only be handed to adults because colored water could spill all over the place if it were to break. This is a fantastic novelty gift that is sure to get people talking. Simply fill the globe with colorful water. It's also a great companion piece to Galileo's original glass thermometer, the Termometro, which works by changing the density of the liquid in the glass tube, which causes the little glass spheres to rise and fall, indicating the temperature. br>br>Of course, Amazon has it as well. Just make sure to get the ones with the most floating glass sphere indicators (17" or 21" models) for the best accuracy.
However, it is extremely thin and appears to be at risk of breaking simply by touching it. To keep it from falling over, you'll need to create a holder.
This was a gift to myself, and I absolutely adore it. It has the entire world etched on the glass, and believe me when I say that it is absolutely stunning. IT WORKS. When it rains, the water rises to the top of the structure. I used to have something similar, but this little glass globe is so much nicer. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on this piece, so I know what would make a couple of great holiday gifts. I'm sure they'll be appreciated as a little surprise during the holidays, based on the responses I've received on this piece, and I'll let Santa know about them so he can include them on his list.
This is truly incredible! It's amazing how quickly the pressure can change! My 90-year-old father has never understood why he hurts on certain days, so we're getting him one so he can see the pressure rise.
