The gnome tree ornament is 5" wide and fits great on the tree. Despite its thinness, it is quite strong.
It takes a #3 screw to fit in the hole. There is a screw with a shank diameter that is a little thicker than a #2 pencil lead. I am sure they don't have those here in my shop, but I know they have them in China (where this is made). You need to mount it to a wall (not a tree) according to the instructions. In this case, a 6mm nail would be ideal if fastening to drywall is not possible. It was just a matter of carving out some of the tough bark from the base of the cottonwood tree and wedgeing My "average" gnome, about half the size, measures about 6" tall in the center. It's very attractive, measuring about 6x8 (though the Gnome itself is about 6" in diameter). As well as its paint job, it looks very nice. Had it not been for the instructions, I would have given it a 4 out of 5. Clear, easy to follow, and easy to implement instructions are essential to the success of any project. If a company isn't familiar with its own products/does not use them, I use caution when purchasing from them. Given that they suggest you use a screw rather than a nail to attach to a wall, I believe this may be designed to be used indoors.

I could not get a screw in the attachment slot of either Window Gnome.
