You could also hammer in a shorter 1ft piece of 4x4 and see what happens. Every few hits, make sure the plumb is accurate. You can then replace it with the actual fence post once it is placed where you want it to be.

If you wish to use them with a 3 fence, can they be cut to 12"?

can't say for sure, but I would want it to be at least 24 inches long. Do not forget to watch out for someone leaning

Selected User Reviews For MTB Fence Post Anchor Ground Spike Metal Black Powder Coated 24 x 4 x 4 Inches Outer Diameter (Inner Diameter 3.5 x3.5 Inches), Pack of 4

An A-rated product that is convenient and sturdy In spite of the heavy weight of the four of these, the packaging was light
4/5

Due to the extreme rain and the failure of the delivery person to ring the bell, the box was almost completely gone after 4 hours, so I had to remove each spike one by one and bring it inside. It is a great spike on its own. There is a heavy coating and I believe the steel is 2mm thick. On the bottom of the 4x4 bracket, three holes where the spikes join are welded together. Initially, I thought they would not be enough, but they appear to be. In the end, I drilled the spike until it went all the way in. The 4x4 from Lowe's did not fit well, at least not by hand. I pushed it a bit, and then hammered the spike until it stayed in place. In order to fit the nuts, a 13mm socket was needed. The first spike installation was done by putting the spike in place, using a level to push into the ground, and then hammering while checking the I tried this tactic but it did not work since one of the nuts went into the ground and the post was not yet in place. Furthermore, considering that the posts sometimes do not fit properly, it is a good idea to hammer the post into the ground first, tighten, then hammer it out. I've been extremely pleased with how well the posts have held up. The fence line and gate I constructed with almost 16 of these were 90ft in length. On top of that, I climbed on the fence rails to see whether the structure wobbles or bends (I weigh about 170 pounds). In the next few months, I will update to ensure there is no rusting or sagging. The whole process is faster and easier than working with concrete, and I was not interested in working with concrete. It was painful to use the sledgehammer (my legs hurt, perhaps it would have been better if I had a sledgehammer instead) but they are 3 times as expensive as As a plus, if I want to, I can pull them out later. A quick update We have been using the system for 10 months now. Even with two hurricanes, a lot of rain and soggy weather, the city is still standing. Due to the fact they were not lifted out of the ground, I did not inspect for rust. large dog, with an average weight of 80 pounds, loves to put his paws on the fence and look over it almost every day. In spite of all this, the tripod does not wobble or lean in any way. The ground will be frozen in the coming winter, so I hope it holds after the ice melts. As far as I can tell, they go below the frost line in my area. For those of you living in northern regions, you should get longer spikes.

Garden arbors can be adorned with this
4/5

The garden arbor I built and these just got completed For anchoring the tent to the ground, they came in handy. It is quite possible for me to make changes to the location of the posts once those have been set in concrete. I did not want to dig holes and set concrete posts. When pounding the spikes into the ground, you need to be careful not to bend them as you screw them into place. When you start to see deeper spikes, check the level with a level as you go. The posts they are meant for are not true 4" X 4" They are for standards 3 and 4. Three times five is five. I am only disappointed to find that the spikes are only 18 inches long and not 24 inches long. 6" to 12" remaining are the legs, which are intended to stay above It is hoped that the 18" depth will provide my arbor with a level of security over time. And it is hoped that the torches will not rust.

However, rocky soil can interfere with the effectiveness of these
4/5

These posts will be used for a garden enclosure made out of 4x4 square posts. The lack of PT lumber meant that I could buy only enough posts to rip in half to get nine 4' posts. I therefore avoided digging holes. There is a major problem with using these, and it is not a product problem, it is our rocky New England soil. As a result, we had to move and install the posts more than once to find soil devoid As soon as we found the sweet spots in the ground, we used a 4x4 that was cut down and a 4 lb. weight. Driving anchors in the ground after driving them with a sledge hammer. With a locking nut bolt and bolt that splits the collars, the anchor holds the posts down tightly. There is a tiny bit of space around the posts that allows for a shim to help plumb them. As you can see in the photo, the shim is visible. The cord will eventually be cut. It was necessary to buy a ninth anchor so I went to HD and got a similar one that is about half as heavy and one of the anchor fins has twisted into a pretzel shape. It's very good to have such strong and reliable anchor posts. Furthermore, the black color contrasts well with the post. In the end, the black posts will hold the posts in place faster than digging holes and placing concrete or foam. When you are in, you can insert your posts and continue without waiting for concrete or foam to harden. The company is reliable and I would use it.

The work is good
4/5

We used these to create a fence around our trash cans. It was hard to be precise. As we needed 5 of these, I purchased this fourpack at HD for $19 and an additional one online for $2. I thought the HD one was much thicker and made of better materials. Each rock or brick was easy to hammer into our clay soil, and we were able to level it as we went. The top of one of the posts broke off from the spike when we tried to adjust it. We then had to get another HD anchor as it twisted as it went into the ground. Since we were trying to create as straight of a fence as possible, this twist made the job very difficult. Possibly not the best choice if you want it to be precise, but overall we are pleased with the results. My recommendation would be just to get all of them from HD if I had to do it all over again.

Trying new things
5/5

It must be illegal to have vertical fences in Florida, my daughter would jokingly remind me. In our area, fences that are set in concrete bases tend to lean if the sand is piled high on top of the sand (especially during our seasonal deluges). This should ensure that the fence is able to withstand the pressure that causes it to tilt. Purchased various sizes for the purpose of experimentation. We want to know how each of them performs. The idea will be updated if it fails It would be reasonable to assume that they are working as intended!.

The base of a fence post
4/5

We first used this product for building a dog run outside the screen porch 15 years ago. The last one we used rusted out recently. Rust shouldn't be a problem with the new product from Amazon, since it is coated. In order to keep the fence in good working order, we will order more as needed. The posts are treated four by fours 48 inches in size, and they are A sledge hammer and a short piece of 4x4 were all I needed to complete the task. A fence post anchor was sunk into the ground so deep it could support the short 4x4 posts, which were then replaced with the 48 inch posts. Lightweight metal fencing was then attached to the 13 posts eight feet apart. The dog will be kept I was satisfied with the product. Installs easily and is easy to order. Provided in a timely manner. A fence such as this is not strong enough to keep people in or out, but it is appropriate You are not allowed to climb a.
