Questions & Answers
14 12 wide x 20 12 high is the rough opening for this panel.
I'd say the depth of the access door I installed is a couple of inches without measuring it.
It would need to be painted on the outside to keep it safe. After that, I believe it could be possible with regular maintenance.
On the inside of the opening, there's a metal flange that, depending on the installation, you screw into the stud or ceiling joist. The net rough opening should be 14 inches wide because it's designed to be installed with 16-inch-on-center framing. 5 inches. If the dimensions of the access door you buy are different, double-check the measurements.

Close the tape. The door had no padding, which resulted in chipped paint and a mildly bent flange. The door appears to be slightly hung off-kilter, with uneven clearances at the top and bottom. I need it right now, so I'll put up with it because it'll be hidden behind a washing machine eventually, but the price was a letdown.
There shouldn't be much that could go wrong with a simple access door, but this one had a few flaws. br>br>The good: br>Sturdy all-metal construction with a well-applied coat of paint. The drawbacks: br>br> br>First and foremost, the door was not properly centered in the frame, with a larger gap along the hinge edge than along the latch edge. Using a pry bar and a soft-ended mallet, I was able to fine-tune this. The third issue was that the three (3) quarter-finalist candidates were all from the same political party. Turn catches are a poor design choice. But it's cheap and stupid. On a door this size, three catches are unnecessary, and they don't turn properly, making it difficult to tell whether or not they are engaged. A single sliding catch, similar to those found on electrical distribution boxes, would have been a far better solution. br>br>I chose this brand because they offer a wide range of sizes, including a 14 x 20 inch, which was one of the few available. It's just a shame that there appears to be a lack of Quality Control and some questionable design decisions in the catches.
Restocking fees are exorbitant. I'll just keep the item that doesn't fit and won't shop there again because of their policy. It doesn t fit and no chance is given to correct that issue without a 35% up charge is given to correct that issue without a 35% up charge.
The door didn't close because the frame was warped. It is expected that a replacement will arrive soon.
It's well-built, well-painted, and it's mounted on 16" wheels. It took some time to break into the lock, but it now works perfectly.
This was exactly what we needed as a stopgap to cover a hole in the ceiling caused by a pipe break without having to redo all of the sheetrock and repaint the entire room. Fit perfectly between the rafters and was easily screwed in.
It's a solid door, not a flimsy metal one.
It's well-made. Remember to insulate the door's backside as well. I used pink insulation board that was adhered to the wall with Gorilla glue.
