Questions & Answers

We'll be taking the griddle camping, so does anyone know if it folds up or if it's designed to be moved around?

Although the legs fold, this is not a unit designed to be carried around. heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy This is a substantial piece of machinery. heavy. If you're going camping, don't get this. Have I mentioned how heavy it is? It's a great grill, but you'll have to buy it, set it up, and cover it at home.

Is it true that the top pre-eminent pre-eminent pre- seasoned? I'm curious as to why the blackstone and Camp Chef are so different in price. ?

All you have to do is wash it with mild soap, rinse well, apply a little oil, crisco, etc., turn on the burners, let it run hot for about 15 minutes, turn it off, and apply a little oil (I use Olive oil). Excess should be wiped away. You're all set to cook; mine didn't work out. After you've finished cooking, turn on the burners, pour or squirt water on the grill, and wipe it down with a clean rag. Turn off the stove, add some oil, wipe it down, and you're ready for the next exciting cooking adventure. My Blackstone 36-inch grill, as well as my tailgater grills, are two of my favorite things. I hope this has been of assistance.

When I'm grilling, I'll occasionally turn off the burners and then turn them back on. They switch to a very low setting on occasion. Is there anybody else here?

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. With the regulators on our griddles, there's a safety feature. The regulator will prevent much gas flow from going through the regulator the next time if the propane was not turned off completely or in the exact steps; I've noticed that our recent batch of regulators are more sensitive than they have been in the past. You could try removing the propane tank and then reattaching it. The regulator should now be free of the above-mentioned safety feature. In addition, air gates can be adjusted at the front of each burner to suit your needs. They are in charge of the air-to-gas ratio. You can loosen a small silver screw at the front of the burner tube and then slide the gate open or closed as desired. The air gates are usually half-closed, if not completely closed. I hope you find this information useful. If you require a copy of the air gate instructions or anything else, please contact our customer service department at 435- 252- Call 3030 x 1 or send an email to [email protected]. com. LIKE A VILLAIN, I'M GRILLIN'
5/5

Buy this for your boyfriend if you ever want to see him have an erection while grilling. Like we're at a teppan grill, he pushes it around outside. I admire my tough guy as he delicately flips my gardenburger on this monstrous grill through the open window. Believe me when I say that size does matter. Get the 36" version. We purchased the canvas cover to protect it from rust and the elements. Because my boyfriend adores it so much, I know that if he ever cheats on me, this will be the first thing I vandalize. He treasures his Star Trek light-up phone, which he purchased in 1984.

Customer service was mediocre (until it was finally delivered)
3/5

UPDATE: After months of emails, Blackstone finally replaced my warped griddletop. Two weeks after my review was published on Amazon, I received a replacement confirmation email. I'm not sure if the negative review (see below) influenced the decision to replace. I haven't finished seasoning the new griddle (it's a lengthy process).
- br>I'm pretty sure this is my first Amazon review. I spent a lot of time looking for the best flat top griddle. I wanted something that was high quality, portable, and at least 36" wide, so I went with the Blackstone griddle because of its size and foldable legs. I used an entire 20-pound propane bottle to season the griddle. It was a lot of fun to use once it was seasoned. I've had a lot of fun using it to prepare a variety of meals. I've used it to make pancakes for a group of 120 people. The disadvantages are as follows: 1) The grease trap is in an inconvenient location in the back of the building. The standard trough found on nearly all other flat top options would have been much more appealing to me. br>2) The griddled taco'd after about 5 months of use. The griddle made a loud pop and became permanently warped while cooking a common dish, teppanyaki. There do not appear to be any broken welds. It is, however, no longer a useful griddle. br>3) Customer Service: Their customer service is either inept or actively ignores warranty claims, according to my observations. All attempts to work out a warranty replacement or other option have been ignored, or I've been told I need to contact a different Blackstone employee but haven't been given a way to do so. br>br>I'm writing this review as a last ditch effort in the hopes that someone from the company will notice and assist me with my warped griddle.

For the money, this is an excellent griddle
5/5

This review is for the 36" Blackstone griddle (model 1554) that I've had for over a year and a half. Overall, I think this griddle is a great deal, especially considering the price. You might be able to find a better griddle, but it will cost a significant amount of money. Some basic assembly is required. br>br> A single box contained my griddle. When you cut the two plastic straps, the box lid comes off easily. The parts appear to be tightly packed. To put it together, I needed a 10mm wrench, an adjustable wrench, and a Philips screwdriver. Assembly took about 15 minutes once I had it unpacked. We could have finished in 10 minutes or less if I had someone to help me. You can watch a 3-minute assembly video on Blackstone's website or on YouTube by searching for "Blackstone 36" Griddle Assembly. " I measured 55 pounds for the griddle top. 5lbs. If lifting a bulky item of this weight makes you uncomfortable, enlist the assistance of a friend or family member. br>br>If you have a problem with your new griddle, contact Blackstone directly via email or phone. Their customer service phone number and email address were listed on page 23 of my manual. I had a minor problem with them, and their customer service was extremely helpful. Email responses were prompt, and when I called, I was speaking with a real person in seconds (a real person who spoke English as a first language). Keep in mind that customer service is available Monday through Friday from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m. F 9a- 5 p. m. Mountain Standard Time. br>br>The griddle top comes coated in a protective oil to prevent rust, which you should wash off after assembly, as directed in the instructions. I used hot water with dish soap. I then rinsed with plain hot water to remove the soap. I used a towel to dry the surface before turning on the grill for a few minutes to cook off any excess moisture. Many griddle users slap on some oil or bacon and start cooking right away because the top is carbon steel (not Teflon or stainless steel) and will rust if not seasoned. They season the griddle over time, which helps to keep the food from sticking and the griddle surface from rusting. In my case, I wanted to season the meat in a more systematic manner. br>br>To season the griddle in a methodical, long-lasting manner, follow the same steps as you would for seasoning cast iron cookware. "Blackstone Griddle Top Recovery" is a YouTube video made by Blackstone. The purpose of this video is to demonstrate how to restore a rusted griddle top. They do, however, discuss seasoning at 2:39 seconds into the video. Several articles I read about seasoning cast iron cookware with flax oil agreed with what I saw in the Blackstone video. Make sure you buy organic, cold-pressed, unrefined flax oil that has been refrigerated. Other than flax oil, you don't want anything else in your oil. Before using, make sure it is up to date and shake it well. It's a pricey oil, but it's not necessary to buy a large bottle. I coated my griddle six times with just over 3 oz of oil in total. The amount of oil used decreased with each layer. The seasoning coat/layer was made up of the following ingredients: br>br>
1. wiping a thin layer of flax oil across the cooking surface (I used a paper towel for this).
2. I used a paper towel to wipe away the excess oil.
3. Turning on all of the burners for about 30 minutes to basically burn the oil in (I went a little longer).
4. br>Repeat the process by turning off the burners and allowing the griddle to cool. At the very least, according to Blackstone, there should be four. 5 coats. Six coats of seasoning were recommended in the cast iron cookware articles I read. br>br>With proper seasoning, you'll have a gleaming black cooking surface. I was getting close to the perfect shiny black finish after 6 flax oil coats. Check your level. br>br> Check the level of the griddle before beginning to cook. Use whatever you have on hand, such as a construction level or a marble. You want to make certain that the liquid will flow down the drain. Because my patio slopes away from the house, I had to prop the griddle's left wheels up on a scrap of plywood to direct the grease to the drain. br>br>Cooking br>br>Cooking br>br>Cooking br Even though I cook on a well-seasoned surface, I add a dash of oil to many of the dishes I prepare (for example, eggs). Cleaning the griddle: br>br> I find that cleaning the griddle is simple thanks to my well-seasoned cooking surface. It usually takes me three hours. 5 mins. On YouTube, I found a helpful video from a griddle user. "Easy way to clean the Blackstone Griddle (Revised)" can be found on YouTube by searching for it. I use liquid oil instead of spray oil like the guy in the video. br>br>My only criticism of the griddle is that it suffers from the same problem that has been mentioned in other reviews: The grease drain issue has yet to be solved by Blackstone. Occasionally, grease that is dripping from the griddle leg will miss the cup and run down the griddle leg instead. So, if you stick a paperclip or a piece of wire in the hole down to the grease cup, the grease will run down the wire rather than up under the grease gutter due to surface tension. You can also direct grease down the drain by wrapping a small piece of foil around the drain's end.

Except for the grease drain design, everything else is excellent
4/5

It would have been a five-star grill if it hadn't been for the scalding hot grease that ran down my leg due to a poorly designed drain. I reemed the hole to 1" and tig welded a steel tube in; this is something Blackstone should do right out of the box.

Mongolian BBQ is a must-try
5/5

However, there is a shortcoming. This is by far my favorite purchase in a long time! the griddle is of excellent quality, but it does have one flaw: explained at the conclusion- Aside from that. . . The griddle is incredible- Since purchasing it, I've seasoned it and used it five or six times, and I've received nothing but praise for how delicious the Mongolian BBQ is - I also bought the folding shelves add-on, and I'm not sure how anyone could cook without them- They will be required to hold all of the plates and meal fixings. br>Now, on to the flaw- It's time to replace the grease drip trough and catch pan. Developed. The griddle has a shallow trough that runs the length of it and drains to the right. A hole is drilled in the trough, which extends out about 2". Then there's the catch can, which is tucked away beneath the hole. This is fine for most drippings, but when there is a lot of oil, grease, or other liquid trying to drain, it starts to miss the catch can and drips down the griddle leg, causing puddles on the ground. To help with this problem, I purchased a mod extension from another seller on here, but it isn't a perfect solution. The fact that another seller is attempting to resolve the issue should alert Blackstone to the fact that they have a problem.
