I've set up dozens of devices like this before. This item looks very similar to a Reliance item. The disadvantages are listed below. Installing this item because it is not UL listed is a code violation. Because of clearance, one of the conductors can't be terminated. I had to use a special right angle tool that most people don't have. br>The cover is sloppy, and the tolerances are loose. br>This item is made in China. br>In exchange for a review of this item, I received a two-dollar gift certificate. br>Other customers may choose to write a review in order to receive a rebate. br>br>On the plus side, it'll suffice to get the job done for the time being.
There were a couple of oddities with the box. Most importantly, the screw holding the socket to the base is too small for the box (it strips out) and needs to be replaced. The ground lug had to be stripped and reattached after it had broken off. The plastic cover is adequate, but not comparable to a steel cover in terms of quality. The top, like most generator receptacles, needed clearance to install onto the base (the base can't go under the siding lip without a 1/2 inch clearance). ) Not quite as good as the more expensive version.

It appears to be well constructed, and the price is very reasonable when compared to similar alternatives. Because mine is installed in a garage, I can't comment on its waterproofness. Because black doesn't go with much on a house, I'd like to see it offered in a variety of colors. If necessary, it could be painted. Overall, I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
I'm not sure how easily solid wire could be bent to allow it to be reassembled. If you mount directly to a wall, you'll need to loosen the top screw before reinstalling the top. Use a spacer between the wall and the box as an alternative. I wouldn't make any changes to the design because it appears to be quite watertight. The plug is snugly inserted into the receptacle.
This appears to be the Reliance PB30 for about two-thirds of the price. three-quarters the price of that item, or any equivalent 30 amp generator inlet box The construction appears to be of good quality, so there's no reason to pick this box over more expensive alternatives. S7 deserves credit for lowering this item's market price. In this market, there isn't much competition, so the other manufacturers were all willing to overcharge the consumer for what is essentially a simple metal box with a plug. I'm sure the other manufacturers were putting a big markup on their prices, but the newcomer S7 has thrown a wrench in the works.
It was relatively simple to install the product. I'm a carpenter by trade, not an electrician by any stretch of the imagination. I borrowed some wire (8 gauge) from a coworker, but it was heavier duty than I needed, making it more difficult to push in after it was all put together. The wire, on the other hand, was unattached. It might have been simpler if it had been 10 gauge, as it should have been. The screws were a little tricky to put in, but not too bad. After about a month, the screws appear to have begun to rust slightly. The weatherproof cap is also functional, but a door that raises like the one on the Reliance would be preferable. Overall, I got a good deal for what I paid for. Since this is the first and only one I've ever done, I guess I don't have anything to compare it to.
This is made of metal and has a rubber cover. If it were outside in the sun all year, it might be a problem, but for me, it's not an issue because I'm in the corner of the garage. Installing it was a breeze. I'm very pleased.
