The reason I bought it was to fix the one I had previously.

The majority of the time, this is caused by debris getting lodged inside the valve during installation, or by a repair down stream, or loosening debris/sediment from pipe walls and becoming lodged inside the diaphragm of the valve. When I noticed a section of our sprinklers running when it shouldn't have been, I was in our kitchen. It turned out that the valve had failed. It has happened to me over the years that I have had to replace solenoids because they had failed, but the problem was inside the valve. In fact, the diaphram looked fine when I opened it up however, the thin white plastic ring was falling apart. These valves are about 30 years old, and I have two of them in my back yard. One of those diaphragms has been replaced by me previously. It is easy to fix a sprinkler that would not shut off this way. When ordering the valve assembly as a whole, there was a lower cost than ordering the components individually.
