Product Description

As a climber, she is capable of reaching heights of nearly a dozen feet. It is best to pick the beans when they are young and tender and eat them that way. The beans grow up to a foot long.
Flowers can be grown in these flower seeds to add an attractive, decorative touch to a fence or trellis, as well as supply nutrition in the form of beans.
Among the fastest growing annuals, Phaseolus coccineus grows best in full sun and on a climbable structure. There are crimson red, white, and bi-colored red and white flowers on this plant that can grow up to 12 feet tall.
There is only one seed required per plant for this vine to grow.

Questions & Answers

Did you have any problems with leaves being infested by bugs or diseases?

Essentially, my vines (in PA) were fine last year (in spite of some disease). This past winter, I took some seeds to Florida and grew a bunch of plants there In a pot I planted them. In the beginning, I had some sort of disease that made the leaves The website I used to diagnose this said tobacco mosaic virus (I am unsure of the precise name). In this case, aphids are responsible for the transmission of the disease. Covering the ground in the pot with aluminum foil was the remedy I decided to use to treat it. This is strange! The solution was effective, however. It took only a few minutes for the leaves to look normal again. It's time to cut away some of the bad ones. As a result of the shiny foil, the aphids cannot align themselves to the leaves as they are disoriented. I planted them in the spring the first year I lived in Pennsylvania, and there was no harvest at that time (although they were flowering and extremely healthy at 9 feet high)(they are tall enough for that). A year ago I had a good crop from the same plants and this year in PA I have good healthy vines along with numerous beautiful flowers but few It is likely that I will have a harvest this fall. There may have been a harvest failure due to the heat in the spring. Cold mountain climates in South America led to the evolution of these beans. States like Washington and Oregon are likely to do better than Tennessee. Hope you have a successful run!

Is it possible for these to grow in Texas?

Having lived in Minnesota my entire life, I have no idea about Texas. During the third week in May, we move out of the indoor classroom and begin working outside. They need something to climb up to get to the flowers, so these are nice and pretty. Bees and hummingbirds like these flowers.

What kind of food is this?

Yes, without a doubt! They are edible as well as cover a 5 foot fence and totally cover it since I grow them along a fence. It is also great for attracting hummingbirds because the red flowers attract them.

These are actually perennial, according to what I've read. Are they treated as such by anyone?

These perennial plants are indeed Despite this, the roots can first sprout, but will only sprout if the spring seedlings are not exposed to heavy frost. The roots can be planted before the first hard frost in the fall and replanted Your next year is going to be a lot easier with a good head start. Over the winter, you will need to figure out how to store them. Make sure to plant seeds from last year again. This works just

A 50% germination rate is seen, but not all seeds are scarlet
4/5

Scarlet runners are attractive to hummingbirds and edible vines. Germination has not been apparent for these plants - not impressed. A little over half of the seeds germinated in 3 gallon lawn and garden pots watered adequately and placed in direct sunlight for 8+ hours a I planted seeds after last frost and grew them in a mixture of amendment and sand/clay soil, similar to what worked successfully with runners and other types of beans when I was a kid. It is believed that at least one of the seeds planted did not germinate scarlet There is only one kind of bloom. After conditions began to step up into the 80's, the vines flourished They would be best suited for the southern half of the United States, since they need 80 degrees to flourish. I got what I wanted in the end A scarlet runner bean grows on a vine Additionally, I get to construct a fully scarlet seed stock so that I can plant a real row with better germination next year since I will be handling the seeds myself. Don't expect to be eating tons of beans the first year (after a little weeding out) but it's good to get the genetics you want.

Beautiful plants grew from these seeds
5/5

This is the first review I can put up. You can grow them as long as you care for them and take good care of them. My garden's beans started a little slower than others, but I believe this is due to - They grew to a very lovely size once they got started! These are nice beans with pods that get very large and can go to seed if you let them. Even if you just appreciate the flowers for that reason alone, they are lovely It is not just the beans that are good! There are a lot of good things about these, and I'll be purchasing them again. The seeds are still there, although I do have them. The information you have made available is greatly appreciated. Those are some of the things my mother taught me and I'm glad I've learned them!.

The beans on this climber are beautiful
5/5

The seeds are large and light purple. The kids planted them in the Spring of 2018, and measured the growth rate. only are they tasty, but they're also This is the second time we've ordered these It was both times incredibly pleasing to see the bright red flowers and to get them so quickly In addition to the ease of growing lush vines, the seeds are generally reliable and easy to use. This bean is perfect for climbing.

I had excellent germination, as I usually do with OutsidePride Usually, it takes less than a week for the leaves to emerge. This fall, I'm excited to see how the dry beans taste.

This is a poor quality product
3/5

Every year, other seeds have been given to me and I have grown them to incredible heights. The items were not in stock this year, so I had to order them. This is awful. The next time I buy these, I won't.
