They do, in fact, cut near the blades' ends.
The design is based on actual sheep shears, but these have been designed and tested specifically for garden trimming. They are sharp, light, and simple to use, as I can attest. We've used them for a long time to trim hedges and shrubs, but we've never tried them on sheep's wool. Replacement blades are not currently available, but we will investigate the possibility in the future.
I'm not sure what metal it is. However, unless it has been improperly handled, it retains its sharpness. After each use, I wipe it dry with a clean cloth and spray it with WD 40 before storing it.
Taiwan is where they're made.

There are a few things to keep in mind. Because the blades are so sharp, the "action" is very smooth. The tool is "heavy," but it can easily snip a single blade of fountain grass or entire clumps of geraniums, which I normally do with hedge trimmers. This blade is as sharp as a knife, capable of piercing a shirt and, as I discovered the other day, piercing the palm of a leather gardening glove. br>br>I have a small man's hand, probably a size 8 glove. I know that I purchase small leather gardening gloves. My wife is 4'11" and I am 6'2". My wife can use these, though I would say "wield" rather than "use" in this case. " For me, it's a five-star rating; The blades keep their edge, and I use sewing machine oil on them between uses to keep them sharp. After a few hours of trimming a 40-foot geranium bed, I sharpened the blades with a stone. br>br>Before making a decision, I recommend reading other people's reviews. I'd buy them again, and my wife thinks they're great for her bonsai skills.

An old Corona grass shear was given to me by friends who were moving years ago. It appeared to be worn, but it cut much more easily than the newer ones I had. The safety latch had been out of commission for quite some time. The grass shears had reached the end of their useful life. I was planning on ordering the same shears, the GS 3750, but the reviews were mixed. luster. I looked at a few others, including some other brands, but I really wanted to have the same experience as I had with Corona. It was the proper course of action to take. These are about 1/2" shorter and have black blades rather than steel. With a name engraved on it, it's colored. Unlike my other, not-so-smart friends, I don't have any I don't have to hold the grass tightly in one hand while cutting with the other (or the grass will just slide through the blades if I do). I highly recommend them because they are simple to use.
I was pleased with my choice of shears the first two times I used them. That was different the third time around. The spring that allows the grip to return and the blade to reopen after a cut suddenly stopped working while I was cutting. After that, I had to manually open the blade in order to make repeat cuts. Although it is too late to return, it is never too late to warn others.
These shears are fantastic! The fact that I can rotate the handle makes it even more useful. Italian craftsmanship at its finest! I strongly advise you to purchase them.
I read the reviews before purchasing this product, and I find them to be excellent. To my surprise, the blades can also be turned in the opposite direction, though I will never use them that way. They are nice and sharp, even better than I expected, and I am confident that they will last for years.
The tough weeds and pasture grass found in South Central Florida lawns were quickly mowed down with these shears. Standard hand-held grass clippers pale in comparison to these shears. They appear to be unwieldy or awkward to use, but I found them to be simple to use and the weight of them was not an issue. They effortlessly cut through even the toughest weeds and grass. Use the scabbard that comes with the knife to avoid injuring yourself on the blade tips. Now I only have one question: What is the expected lifespan of the blades? Time will tell, and I'll let you know when I have more information. These would make excellent utility shears if the blades kept their edge and the pivot point was well designed. I was detailing my car in the garage and needed a small cloth to apply wax in a tight area. I cut a small piece from a nearby towel with these shears. It was a total success. With the exception of their size, I believe these shears would make excellent household utility shears.
I've tried three other grass clippers, and this one is by far the best because the design is so simple. It's sharp, opens and closes easily, and clips vertically and horizontally just by turning your wrist. It's unlocked and you're ready to get to work. br>I'm thinking about getting another one to keep on my back deck just in case. br>This one will not let you down.
