I like how the handle is shaped and how it fits my medium sized hand. Our soil has a lot of clay and stones, and the sharp points of the flat fork easily dig into it. The tool has only been used a couple of times so far, so I cannot attest to its longevity, but I believe it will outlive me due to its heavy construction. Initially I was hesitant to pay $38 for a gardening hand tool, but when I broke it down into how many years I thought it would last, I felt it was reasonable. One of the Dewit trowels is on my Christmas wish list, and I hope that Santa brings it to me this year!.
Many of them have been purchased by me and I know they are good quality and well designed for their purposes. You are definitely getting your money's worth! It's the Cape Cod weeder that I like the best. One of my absolute favorite tools in the garden! My collection includes the short handled ones as well as the long handled ones, and I have purchased another four Most of the DeWitt hand tools I own, as well as shovels and hoes, also from DeWitt. The quality of this brand is outstanding. I highly recommend it. The garden fork I received as a gift from myself last year is really nice and I.
Two other forks bent and finally broke, so I bought this one to replace them. That fork is definitely WAY stronger than the other one. It is obvious that the neck and tines are designed to withstand digging forces in an extremely effective manner. The weeds in hard lawn turf have been uprooted with zero flexing with it. My only complaint is that I wish the handle were longer. You don't have much leverage when digging in hard sod, nor will you get much reach when loosening deep garden soil with it. Even a longer handle seems like it would be too weak to withstand the stresses it would generate. We will probably see the DeWit designers enlarge the wood a few inches or more. Another minor issue I have with the tool is that the handle ended up with a large burr on the end that irritated my hand. If I can file or sand it smoother, that will be better.
Overall, I find the Welldone Handfork to be a useful addition to my toolbox.
I love the way these tools are made so well! The four tools I have so far are all very good so far, but I have several more on my wish list. If I were serious about gardening, there would be plenty more to desire Every tool that they make seems to be specialized for some purpose. In this wooden fork, the tines are flat (about 1/8 inch thick), rather than round or square like those on a standard My mother and I used it for numerous purposes, and I just discovered that it is *amazing* for collecting moss when we made a few terrariums with moss/ferns as gifts for our parents. The digging is made easier with nice sharp points and beveled edges on every tine, so they are thinner/sharper, so they are easier to dig with When you work under the moss, the nearly flat surface slides right under, leaving you with a thin layer of soil, without breaking up or disturbing There will never be another company like DeWit for me! Certainly, these tools cost more than walking into HD or L, but they will last thousands of times longer, and I probably won't need to replace them for a long time. There were many times I have said this before, but I will keep saying it When a tool is good, it makes the work faster and An effective tool is one that actually helps you, as opposed to one that requires you to accommodate it Check tools for flaws, such as design flaws or weaknesses. These tools would have been very useful to me years ago, had I discovered them sooner!.
For digging a planting hole, it is far better to use this device rather than a trowel. This loosens up the soil, and then the trowel can be used to lift it. The tines will help loosen the soil around the roots when transplanting, reducing the amount of damage suffered by the plants. It gives you great results when you use one tine at an angle to loosen.
I remember when my husband first ordered this product I was a little irritated with the $40 he spent THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD have done that. A lot of beds needed to be dug out in front of our house, and this little guy tore through some of the gnarliest roots I've ever seen. We broke many of our other tools digging out the beds, but this very sharp and strong tool did the job just fine. A great price for the quality!.
Dewit is a great company and I own a few other tools, but so far this has been my favorite.
Weeds can be loosened and pulled with ease using this tool. The products are of the highest Probably the best tool I've ever used.
