Stretching to reach the can lip and over the top at the lid hinge, they fit under and fit over the lip of the can. The only piece of advice I have for buyers is It is not advisable to open the paper envelope in which the bands are shipped with scissors. Luckily, I was able to cut one of the bands completely You are going to love it!.
