It is ready for use when it is taken out of the box! Put it together, but do not assemble it! You should use it right away! I love the stool which I fold up to put in my patio box when I'm not using it! Purchased this and I am thrilled with it! To rest my feet on it, I even fold it up and lay it flat. There is a flat and an upright version.
