A single panel is not that heavy. That should work fine. The panels might become very heavy if you are connecting a lot of them, so you might need a heavy duty command hook to hold them.
While I did not get a smell from my brand, I did purchase another brand that did. After being out in the open and allowing the house to breathe for a couple of days, it just went away.

The installation process is very simple. To install all 14 panels, I needed about an hour to do it alone. I liked the privacy they provided as well as how they instantly looked great.
