Ink will run off and smear from the paper if water comes into contact with it, particularly if the paper was just recently printed. In this case, the pen uses liquid ink, not gel, which is why it is not an ideal pen if you are looking for a water-resistant pen (gel pens tend to be more water-resistant).

My Dad and I have been using the regular Pilot V5s since 3rd grade. From the sixth grade through the 12th, I argued with every teacher I had because I refused to trade in my #2 pencils, even when I had to bubble in ScanTron forms (I am not sure about other ink pens, but the machines all recognized my answers). It's been 23 years since I have ever been able to find a writing instrument I love more than this one. It's a fact that I write a lot and sketch a lot. I would devour a whole box of v5's from the local Sam's Club within a few months when they were in stock. Because a bizarre reason was causing them to stop carrying them, I stupidly took advantage of the opportunity to try to find a "better" pen by straying. In reality, I have been trying all sorts of pens this past year and have been stressing out with everything from the Zebra 301 to Le Pen to Sharpie pens to Triplus Fineliners and Uniball Signos to Schneiders and Japanese Sarasas. There are many more items on the list. I was hating my life/me and I hated myself for it. In the end, I ordered a Crapon of V5's from Amazon because I had given up. In my ignorance Pilot has released a retractable version of the pen, so I decided to take a look at it, and oh my sweet baby Jesus, this pen is incredible. My favorite thing is the weight/thickness of the original v5s. Although I wish the metal clip didn't protrude so far down, the grip is more comfortable, and the retractable feature more than makes up for it (no more lost pen caps! There is no difference in the ink flow, which is smooth and consistent. I appreciate the retractable version of the v5s because it produces sharp, precise lines without a lot of pressure, which makes these pens a great purchase considering I suffer from mild carpal tunnel syndrome.

It has been several years since I have used those rollers You can buy gel pens in the form of balls. It was usually difficult to write on smooth, slick paper with some of them, especially if they smeared badly. My wife recently bought me a batch of Pentel gel pens that had high ratings. There are times when the first letter (or two) of whatever I am writing is faint because the gel near the tip of the pen has dried. Take a moment. Additionally, if you enjoy pocket clips, you will love this. This is not a bold font, but rather is fairly narrow. Ink pens don't frequently make it into my reviews. This is an excellent writing instrument - the feel good in the hand, the weight is pleasant, and the ink is rich. I highly recommend the 5mm tip for writing finely. Dryes quickly and fits well in the pocket however, the tip must not be left extended in the pocket otherwise the contents will leak and you will have a difficult time getting them out (probably count your shirt out if that occurs). The pen, apart from the annoying issue described above, is an awesome pen I carry around when I need a pen to write. I really like this pen.
Ink output is smooth and consistent with these pens, and the pen itself feels comfortable and well constructed. Unlike cheap, plastic ballpoint pens, the pens are designed and manufactured to work well together, from the spring to the screw threading. There's clearly a premium here that goes way beyond Pilot's G2's that I used to use. I think it's clear that a lot of careful, skilled design and engineering has gone into making this pen.
I've worked in office jobs for years, and this is literally the best pen I can find in the market that writes to my preferences. The times I've ordered it from Amazon to save a few bucks, well, I do it just for cost savings. The disappointment has been very painful for me. I've received these boxes on two occasions with four pens completely emptied into the bottom of the box and the last time it was six The tips of the pens are broken, and they don't have that little blue plug that keeps them from spilling ink all over my desk when I use them. I'm not sure if the company packing the pen is checking the quality of the product. Just as long as I can see the ink isn't all over my box before I obtain it, I will just stick to places where I can look at the ink before purchasing.
