Questions & Answers

This works with batteries or electrics, or does it work both ways. ?

A manual sharpener, not an electric one. Insert the pencil and twist with your other hand while you hold it in one

Is there any difference between a packaged product and one that does not have a package?

There is no box and there is a What matters is that nothing matters. A hard clear plastic hanging display case is better than an or box.

Can you use this with square shaped pencils (not hexagonal)?

Accordingly, I would expect this sharpener to be compatible I have pencils that are triangular in shape, and they work well with it.

According to the description, this product is made in Germany, however, reviews and photos show it is Do you know which one it is?

The sharpener in question is marketed by Staedtler as "MADE IN CHINA," even though the company is German.

In spite of what it says on Amazon, this is NOT made in Germany
3/5

This sharpener struck a chord with me specifically because I have always used German-made pencil sharpeners of high quality. It was marked "Made in CHINA" on the package when it arrived. It is very disappointing for me. Having the flip lid to keep shavings from spilling out is something I really like about it. As soon as I have used it for a while, I will update and see how it compares with the made in Germany products.

The last time I was this excited about $3 was when I was a kid
5/5

For the first time in a long time, I have 99 items. Pencil sharpeners are one of those things you don't even realize you need until you are in need of When you are given what you have, you have to make due with it. A make-over would be helpful to me A pencil sharpener that is easy to use When you next need a pencil sharpener, skip the purchase of an actual pencil sharpener. Several months ago, I made the decision to actually buy one, and this is the one I was drawn to. It would have been nice to have had it In the couple of times a year I need a pencil sharpened, this little device comes in very handy. My pencils were sharpened after using it once, so I went from room to room looking for more I like the fact that it is small and plastic, but I find that it is incredibly solid in hand. The blade is exceptionally sharp and doesn't cut into your pencil lead. Easily and smoothly, it cuts through the object. Besides the cute little snap cover that keeps shavings inside, the piece is easy to place in your desk drawer or just throw it in the trash It doesn't matter which way you cut the wood, the shavings stay inside and won't spill out in the I'd feel more confident carrying a sharpener around if it was first place in a small ziplock, especially if you're someone that needs to carry one around with them all the time. Even though the shavings drawer and cover both click shut, there may be a possibility that one or both will become dislodged if the tote bag is jostled. br>I am in love with what you have done here. I should have bought it sooner. Why didn't I?.

The labels can be peeled off for a closer look at the functions
3/5

The blades are no longer available for replacement. It was hard for me to decide whether to buy this since there was no view of the actual operation of the device. But I have one of the metal sharpeners within, and while this is clearly only mid-range, it has been very consistent and reliable so far If you have a sharpener in that range, that usually works. In contrast, the tubs on this one are large enough to handle more than one sharpening (the lid on my KUM automatic pops from built up shavings if I do not regularly empty it). Moreover, at $4, I saved a lot more money than if I bought the metal sharpener inside separately. My preferred option would have been to dismantle the container and have a useful sharpener at a lower cost (not counting time and effort) than I could have bought the piece The replacement blades aren't available (oh no! which also makes this the least expensive way I know of to get new Reusing as opposed to replacing may come at an environmental cost for those who believe in reusing. My delight was immense when I discovered that the labels could be peeled off with minimal effort allowing me to have a much more functional sharpener that is also much more attractive! In addition to using Staedtler products for decades (I still have 2mm lead holders from way back when, for instance), it makes me happy when they place billboard-like advertising on the bottom of products, especially when the advertising undermines the utility of that product. I find it to be a satisfactory sharpener to use. I did have trouble sharpening the first pencil because the lead broke off, and I had trouble clearing the jam that formed, but the next three worked just fine with just a little chipping at the tip. With time, shavings tend to obscure the view of the blade at work, but you can temporarily alleviate this problem by removing the top of the sharpener and working the inner works to tamp the shavings down a little. Getting put in a trash can won't be a problem as soon as you get If you're a fan of David Rees' book "How to Sharpen Pencils " How to Write a Practical and Effective Letter "Theorical Treatise on the Artisanal Craft of Pencil Sharpening" may despair at the damage done to the shavings by this method, but it is unlikely that this sharpener will be used for esthetic shaving generation in any event. Therefore, it is a good value for money, but it is a hassle to peel the labels off and replacement blades are Without the labels I would give it four stars, but with them I would give it three.

A great tool for sharpening
5/5

It's hard to believe I'm so excited over a pencil sharpener, but these things are so good! The thing I don't know is what it is. But when you rotate the pencil, all is smooth. I don't know if the blades are damaged or if the angle is off. Neither it feels rough nor does it get stuck (like the cheap and old There is a separate sharpener for the colored pencils so they are not too sharp when coloring with them. must have sharpened 50 pencils and colored pencils when we opened it for the first time. After years of having pencils that couldn't be sharpened properly, it was good to finally sharpen all the stubby pencils I had.

This point has a weak, crumbly foundation
3/5

The item is also made outside of There seems to be some kind of tear in the lead, producing a rough, weak and scratchy point. As soon as you use it, it will break at the tip if it did not break in the sharpener. The sharpener seems especially bad at sharpening lead that is softer Ultimately, I sharpened a Musgrave Test Scoring of 100 (soft but still technically a number 2/HB) over halfway prior to achieving usable points, so I can only imagine how it would handle a number 1 or No matter which pencil I tried, I got poor results, whether it was a Mitsubishi 9000 or Ticonderoga. In fact, I would not use it on a valuable pencil, like a Blackwing or an HD pencil Students at University In the end, you'd be wasting your time and money on a point that never arrives. Adding the jumbo hole and generous, securely attached shaving cup, instead of giving it one star, is all that separates it from a one. Additionally, it is manufactured in China despite the fact that this is a Staedtler brand and it is presumably designed in Germany. This probably explains why the design is good but the execution gets in the way. In the same price range, you might want to get a two- in- one model by KUM instead Sharpen your points by stepping along the step-length. Despite the two parts, they are still made in Germany. Despite the fact that sharpening takes a little longer, they also are made of Using a three-step process, you will get stronger, smoother points that will break less frequently so they even out over time. In addition, the blue KUM has lead pointer blades for sharpening thick leads of lead holders.
