I read the reviews, but clearly not thoroughly enough. Every single one of these erasers broke the moment I tried to use it (the top separated from the circular base that attaches to the pencil top). They were thrown out because they were too inconvenient to donate to the school. The next time, I'll invest a little more in quality:.
I had some pink arrowhead ones from Papermate that worked well, so I figured I'd give these a shot because they looked similar. Unfortunately, not all erasers are created equal: within five minutes, six of the seven children's erasers had broken off the top of their pencils, and the one that remained did not erase well. I was attempting to make a small financial sacrifice; It's a waste of money because they're ineffective. On the bright side, Amazon made it very easy for them to return their items.
In a nutshell, these aren't what you're looking for. Because I'm a cheapskate, I bought these and now I can't use them. Some split when you put them on top of a pencil, some are routed out too shallow and split when they wobble off the pencil top, and any that don't split due to the above two reasons, the tops crumble away from the rest when you use it, leaving a cute little ring on the top of your pencil. These aren't the bargain you're (or I was) looking for, whether they're old stock or cruddy rubber.
We seem to have worn-out pencils on a regular basis. In my house, we have a lot of erasers- These, on the other hand, are truly horrific. They're extremely brittle compared to other brands I've used, and they split and break after only a few uses. The image below demonstrates how little erasing you can do before the entire thing falls apart.
I like how the erasers erased everything neatly.
I have three children, each of whom required different amounts of everything, including eraser caps. I bagged enough for each child and still have enough left over to re-energize our pencils at home (and possibly for next year as well). They aren't the shinny rubber ones that don't erase well and rip off as soon as you use them; instead, they are the classic pink design. These are very similar to the ones I used to have as a kid, and I am very pleased with them.
They're fine, but I prefer the ones that are of exceptional quality.
Because of the negative reviews, I purchased four different brands of erasers so that I could choose the one that worked best for me. I would have been happy with any of these brands if I didn't have anything to compare them to. 81 for 144 is half the price of Paper Mate Arrowhead, which I rated second best.
