Before deciding on this lockbox, I read over ten reviews for different products. I'm an Airbnb host, and I need a safe place to keep the key if I can't meet with my guests to exchange it. This lockbox has a larger hasp than most, so I was able to attach it to the railing next to my front door instead of the doorknob (which makes it more difficult to grip and turn the knob, especially in the winter when wearing gloves). It's simple to change the code, and none of my visitors or house-sitters have ever complained. The lockbox has proven to be problematic for cleaners. The slider door is a nice touch that will keep the metal parts from rusting. The compartment is large enough to hold a ring with multiple keys. Overall, this purchase has exceeded my expectations.
This box isn't designed to hold more than 4 to 5 keys, but I needed a way to keep them all in one place without spending $30 on a larger box. (Most of the larger boxes can hold 20 or more people, so it didn't seem necessary. ) )br>br>Anyway, the interior dimensions are small, as is typical of these small key safes, and they are not designed to hold a large number of keys. However, by doing two things, I was able to get 9 in there: 1. br>br> On a piece of silver ball chain, I hung each key and its corresponding name tag. Alternatively, very small, thin split rings could be used.
2. Place all of the keys in a small Ziploc SNACK SIZE bag (not a sandwich bag) and fold it as flat as possible before placing it inside the box. To avoid interfering with the locking mechanism, keep the top as clear as possible. It's a cinch to use. br>br>Mounting this box to the wall was a breeze. Simply mark the holes, drill pilot holes, tap in the anchors, and screw in the screws that come with the kit. It only took a few minutes for me to finish, and it feels very secure.
I was subletting my room for the summer, but it was difficult to hand over the key because everyone's schedules were so different. This product solved my problem, and the small key lock can be hung on the door, so I don't have to be concerned about it being stolen. And because the instructions were simple to follow, the entire process took me only five minutes to complete. Overall, it's something I would recommend.
Before mounting it, I tested it three times and found that it worked perfectly when the latch was released and the compartment was opened. I attached it to a deck post (thank goodness I didn't attach it to the brick), inserted my key, and shut it. IT WASN'T GOING TO OPENS AGAIN! I tried the new code, the default code, and tapped the box a few times in the hopes that the key was interfering with the mechanism, but it didn't work. It was stuck shut. I finally gave up and yanked it out of the post, only to discover that the mounting plate was made of cheap white metal that easily broke. As a result, in addition to being unreliable, it's also relatively simple to defeat. When the back plate rips apart, the key is easily accessible to anyone with nefarious intentions. In conclusion, stay away from this lockbox!.
This was delivered to me yesterday. So far, setting up the code and installing it has been simple. It has a solid feel to it. It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I'm not sure who complained about the keys being too small. I'm confident I'll be able to fit a dozen keys in there. lol.
This lock fulfills my requirements perfectly. It's simple to use, secures my key, and connects to my doorknob. My only complaints are that it's a little bulkier than I'd like (if it swings side to side while my door slams shut, it will prevent the door from closing) and that trying to clip it around a doorknob is a little awkward because of where the switch to latch and unlatch the arch is located. It's certainly not a deal breaker, and I'm sure it's the same for any other lock of its type. It performs admirably, and I appreciate the fact that it is available in colors other than the traditional silver and black. I can't speak for its long-term viability, but it's been working well so far.
For a few months, it was effective. Now I'm stuck with a lockbox I can't open in order to retrieve my keys. I was unable to release the hinge even before that stopped working. I now need to pay for someone to cut off the useless lock box in addition to purchasing a new lock box and spare keys.
I purchased this lock box so that my rover could easily enter and exit my home without having to give her a copy of my keys. This lock is both strong and simple to operate. They provide a step-by-step guide for changing the combination and attaching it to your desired location. Because I am renting, I chose to attach it to the door handle rather than screw it into the wall, but if you own your home, you can do so as well. The only reason I gave it a four-star rating was because it was too small to go around the railing next to my apartment door. My round door handle and knocker were the only things it could get around. As a result, it's best used in the vicinity of a looped door handle.
