There is no way to remove the box without changing the code, yes.
In the top of the box, there are four holes. I backed out a slightly smaller screw in the top hole and then screwed it in. There are no hooks on the box, but there are four holes to attach it to the wall. By using this arrangement, I can hang a key on the wall Several keys are on the ring, and there is room for a few more keys at I would like to caution you. In order to close the combination box properly, you cannot back out the screw more than 3/16" or the screw will strike the enclosure.
It will be possible to mount this in the holes.

I really like it. I'm enjoying this lock box a lot. The quality is good, and the software is easy to use. There's something about the door that covers the keypad that makes it look more discreet. You would also be able to stash other things smaller in there if you needed room for more than just a key.
NEWS UPDATE. Prior to the current review I give it 3 stars because it's I suspect the shape has changed since I mounted it to a wood beam on the deck, because it is becoming more difficult to open and close.
