If you're concerned about air leaks, use caulk sealant around the cut opening after the box is mounted to the inside of the door before covering it with the exterior frame.
They do not drop down as well as I would expect; they must be folded into thirds or fouths to do so. We use it as a payment box, so I hung a laminated note to remind people to make sure their envelopes don't get caught in the rotating drawer.

The slot is large enough, but the drop's design is not. You will not be successful if you use teeth in the back end. It's a little too small. It's what we use to communicate with each other. We've replaced it with another product because it's not working for us.

In a 20-unit mobile home park, we'd had a long-standing and time-consuming issue collecting rent from our tenants. The issue was resolved by using this Drop Box. The only flaw we discovered is that it is not water resistant. The first day the box was installed, rain poured into it, and we were hit by a torrential downpour from the direction of the door. So my husband installed a metal strip with a piece of rubber above it to create a flap that now protects the opening and keeps rain out. The flap only needs to be lifted to gain access to the Drop Box's pull down door. We now ask tenants to deposit their rent in the Drop Box and text us when they do so, so we know who has paid, when it was paid, and when it should be picked up. It's otherwise solid and well-made, easy to install, and will most likely outlast us!.

It's important to note that the first one I got had a few flaws:
- The outer trim piece was about 1/2" smaller than the squarebr>- The inner diameter was odd and slightly smaller than it should have been due to a defect in the outer trim piece. This caused a problem because the sides of the portion of the box that inserts into it were gripped with a death grip, chipping the finish of the unit when it was pulled out. Installing the box requires placing it on the door, marking the mounting holes, removing it, drilling the holes, replacing it, and fiddling with the upper two holes with your combination wrench inside the box. The procedure was simple to follow. br>br> able, and the final product is quite satisfactory. As you can see plenty of light on both sides (top and bottom) of the slot from the inside, it isn't even close to being air/water tight; in severe weather, some kind of weather stripping or waterproofing would be beneficial.
I was ecstatic to get my hands on the Protex- Thru- The- WSS159 is a door lock box. It was made to look like Fort Knox, and it even had a barrel key, just like my gun safe. The box was well constructed, but it only accepts small letters, and I needed office type "Inter Office" mail envelopes, so I had to return it because it did not meet our requirements.
This function will most likely be beneficial to us. The installation, on the other hand, was a nightmare because the bolts provided were completely inappropriate for the design. Our door's thickness matched the slot part that goes through it, but the bolts were so thick that if we used them, they would come through the door. We needed to look for other hardware, which was difficult to come by because our door, like most exterior doors, is metal sheeted. Simply put, it appears that the manufacturer would have thought this through before sending hardware that is completely incomprehensible. I had hoped for more for the price.
I bought this to use as a secure rent dropbox, but be aware that if residents use envelopes, the box will quickly fill up, if not become stuck between the chute and the small dropbox door/drawer. It does a good job of keeping things safe once they're in the box, but remember to empty it several times a day when rent is due!.
Regular-size envelopes cannot be fed. It's too heavy and complicated to put together.
I could see it being useful as a key drop box for auto repair shops, but not much else. Its mouth is about 3/4" too narrow to fit a standard envelope through. When it says you can put small envelops in the description, it really means small envelops. Who knows when they'll come in handy? When I tried to fold a standard envelope, it got caught in the door mechanism. I'm disappointed because the construction quality appears to be excellent.
